Two weeks post hysterectomy: still tired

Hi, yesterday was 2 weeks since my surgery. I am still tired and have no desire to do anything. Is this normal? I have times when I want to cry and tell my husband this. Is response is be strong, you are doing great. How can I get him to understand?

Hello, You are still early in the recovery phase...Youve had your ovaries removed & that results in reduced estrogen. From surgery & your body needing rest, fatigue will be prrsent. It is also a symptom of reduced estrogen. So is hormonal anxiety, crying.. Talk to your Dr about your symptoms. Ask if you can try natural remedies too..

Soy helps the body produce estrogen-edemame, soy milk, tofu... O ega fatty acids help menopause symptoms-avocado, olive oil, flax seeds, salmon, sardines.....Supplements, primrose oil or fish, flax oil.

Theres a section for Mr Hysters on this site for yoyr husbsnd to read & help understand. There should be more on this site re menopause symptoms. plus, www. 34 menopause symptoms . com has info..

Do some reading, little walks, hydrate well, rest & rotate thru the day. Stay preoccupied bc stircrazy kicks in.... It gets better. ⚘

Re: Two weeks post surgery

You're husband is right - you're doing great! You're still feeling the after effects of surgery and pain meds, plus the trauma of the surgery itself. We live in an age of instant solutions and quick fixes, but recovery from this kind of needs to be thought of in weeks rather than days.

I think for the first week I was sleeping 10 hours a day and taking a nap in the afternoon, second week I didn't need the naps . This is one time that it's a-okay to obey that impulse to sleep and do low key activities. I went through two years of magazines that I'd never had time to go through. So, go to bed early, sleep in, take a nap. My joke "regret" after all the resting was that I wouldn't be tanned or have memories of sipping pina coladas served by a cabana boy at a tiki hut on some tropical beach !
We don't get this down time very often, so take advantage of it. It's what your body needs.
