Stitches dissoving or infection?

I have read that sometimes when the stitches dissove there is an odor, so how do you know if it is the stitches dissolving or an infection. I have a horrible dead animal smell in my vagina, been bleeding with dark red blood for almost three weeks, doc says it is a blood clot that i am bleeding, ie old blood equals dark red blood. Now i am having clots and the terrible stink for two days. It is the blood that is coming out that stinks. Right after i shower, the stink is back. I have to wash my pjs every day. I can't leave the house, the bathrooms smells. ....is that normal?

I believe there is an odor but I don't believe it should be to the extent you are saying. I would error on the side of caution and give your Dr. a call to be sure. It never hurts to run a question by them that you aren't sure about. Good luck.

Re: Stitches dissoving or infection?

If the odour is as foul as you say, it could be an infection. Please get hold of your doctor asap or go to the ER. An infection is nothing to fool around with. Please get back to us with what you find out.

Re: Stitches dissoving or infection?

Old blood has a terrible smell, so it may in fact be the clot breaking down. You can call your doctor, describe what's up and see if there is anything you can do about it (besides wait for it to pass, that is). Sorry you have this going on!

Re: Stitches dissoving or infection?

i called doc and he said possibly a yeast infection and prescribed one diflucan. it is HORRIBLE, i am stinking up the entire house. I don't really want to go to ER for this, you think if i don't have pain or fever it is ok to wait until tuesday when doc is back in?

and yes it is old blood, doc said i had a clot,i have been bleeding this old blood for almost two weeks now, thick, dark, changing pads every 2 hours just to help minimize the stink, not soaking pads anymore
