Re: three days post op and I'll never poop again

I'm 5 days post and just starting to poop. The gas bubbles have taken on a life of their own & have tried to kill me. So far I'm winning. Are you taking stool softeners & drinking lots of water (64 -80 ounces daily)? The bowel system seems to take days longer to wake up than
our other organs. Let your doctor know if you haven't had action within the next 2 days.

Re: three days post op and I'll never poop again

Milk of magnesia (MoM), stool softeners and Gas-X were my best friends initially (after DH). Still on narcotics, so still taking colace and MoM.

Keep up the fiber and water, and use a heating pad on tummy after the "big event".

Gentle hugs...

Re: three days post op and I'll never poop again

It's good to know I'm not out of the normal range. I've been taking colace, metamucil, citrucel, ex-lax, lentil soup and drinking gallons of water and tea and so far no action at all. At some point I'm going to just explode and it will be a tragic mess for my poor widowed husband to scrape off the walls.

Re: three days post op and I'll never poop again

Pooping was such a huge event for a couple days I would come out of the bathroom and make an announcement to the family about how things were going in there. I got applause when I finally pooped.

Re: three days post op and I'll never poop again

My hysterectomy was Tuesday, four days ago, and I am battling bubbles and gas constantly. I think that is where most my pain comes from. What is weird is that I had diarrhea all day the day after my procedure. Every time I took a bite, I had to go to the restroom.....at least ten times. It was VERY painful. Now, I can't seem to go at all. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise. ???? Should I continue my pain medicine or just take stool softeners? It looks like this is fairly normal. I'm worried about going to work in 8 days.

Re: three days post op and I'll never poop again

Oolong tea finally helped me. I think it was the caffeine in the tea.
