My Recovery Week 5 (Do i need to be careful when i head back to work)

I'm in recovery from TAH. This is almost week 5 for me. I been feeling pretty good for the most part, but become tired easily! I have very little pain which i only feel when i go to the potty... i ended up having to go back to the dr before my 2nd week check up because i had so much pain when i would use the bathroom. my dr gave me antibiotics to take. I get to head back to work on April 5th! maybe y'all can help me out with something tho... I asked my dr if i should take it a lil easy when i start back to work b/c my job requires me to pull newhere between 25 lbs to over 250 lbs, and getting on top of a table to flip our fabrics... DO I NEED TO B CAREFUL WHEN I FIRST HEAD BACK TO WORK? my dr said that i wouldn't hurt what he had done, but could end up hurtin myself (feeling uncomfortable) & i'm confused!!!

Re: My Recovery Week 5 (Do i need to be careful when i head back to work)

Egads! 25-250 pounds is quite a difference! I am supposed to go back to work May 7th and will only be released for light duty for at least one month. So, the beginning of June I will (hopefully) be back to usual work which includes up to 50 pounds of weight at various times throughout the day.

Maybe you could go back on restricted status? Full time hours, but just not lifting over, say, 25 pounds for a while? I'd be nervous, too, if I were you. It's too much work to get where you are to undo it all over one bad lift.

That's all I got. I hope others will weigh in on this one. 250 pounds seems way too much, healthy or otherwise.

That seems like a lot of exertion when you return to work. I went back to work after 5 weeks because doc said it was OK, but I should have waited a week or 2 longer. I was very tired from simply driving to work, and even more tired by 3 PM, plus I had to drive back home. If you can, maybe have someone drive you to/from work the first week back, or carpool with a coworker. Also, I didn't feel ashamed or weak by asking for help with lifting boxes, etc. My coworkers were glad to help me. Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it.

Re: My Recovery Week 5 (Do i need to be careful when i head back to work)

Oh my, that sounds like a lot of weight & pulling. I also had a TAH and at 6 weeks exactly I lifted my 33 lbs grandbaby that had fallen & was hurt. Later that night & the next 2 days my belly was very heavy & tender and belly was swellier than it had been in a week.
Personally, I'd be scared to go back lifting & pulling that much so soon. You only have one chance to heal properly. At my 6 week check today I was cleared from all restrictions, but told to slowly ease back into things. I've been careful not to lift anything over 10 lbs. (except that 1 time with a hurt baby) for the last 6 weeks. I plan to slowly start lifting heavier things with gradually increasing the weight.
Best wishes.

Re: My Recovery Week 5 (Do i need to be careful when i head back to work)

I would ask to be put on light duty. I lifted and carried a carseat on both thursday and friday. When I carried it, it felt light enough and didn't hurt but friday night and saturday i was in a great deal of pain. I searched the weight of the carseat and it was only 19 lbs but now 4 days after I still feel like i've been set back a couple weeks. If you haven't been lifting anything I think the first time you do lift something of significant weight, you could very well regret it.

I was stunned at just how much 19lbs hurt

Hello Valerie, We have had the same operations, I had my lymph node removed and an omenectomy also. I hope you are feeling well. I also had my remaining ovary removed yesterday. (1st op went a bit odd, blood transfusions and the unexpected tumor)
