Me too

I just had LSH/BSO on 6/5/07. I am bruised at all three sites. And they are BIG. Looks like I was beat up. The only thing the surgeon told was he found a lot of fibroids. He was really surprised at my bruising, I think he took it personally!
Could this bruising be why I am so sore now? I feel like an old lady when I try to walk and get up and down.

Bruising normal?

I have quite a bit of bruising around one of my lap incisions. The other two look fine, though.

Bruising normal?

I was bruised from my belly button down to and including the tops of my thighs, all across my abdomen and even around to the sides. It was horrible!!!! 4 weeks later I still have some yellow and green spots. I definitely think bruising makes us more sore. My poor DD (age 7) saw me get out of the shower the first week, screamed and took off running!!

Bruising normal?

Thanks Carrot for the added info. I had a LSH which is suppose to be quicker recovery and less pain. So far I have had pain and I do think the brusing has some bearing on that. The way the doctor said I had a lot of fibroids but he was still able to complete the LSH makes me think he probably was on the verge of converting to laparatomy, maybe that is why I seem to hurt more than some of the other LSH ladies. My insides really hurt and I am having a difficult time finding a comfy position other than walking.
Sorry to hear about your daughter, I am sure you were able to explain and calm her down at that age.

Bruising normal?

Hi all--

I just had LSH at FAHC hospital in VT on June 20th. They were trying to get me out the next day, but I was in lots of pain, still on my catheter 28 hrs. after surgery, could hardly move in bed, never mind get up to pee.

I was sent home 2 days ago (after 2 overnights in hospital). I feel like the hardest past for me is not being told what to expect. I was totally scared when I experienced uncontrollable shivering and teeth chattering my first night home after a nap. I'm now most concerned about my hugely black/purple and swollen pubic area. Thank goddess for this forum! I have not heard any other mention of bruising, and especially having had a LSH, I have been worried that something is VERY WRONG.

I had been keeping heat on the past couple of days, and wonder if cold would be a better idea?

Thank you all for any ideas!

peace and starry skies,
Eilonwy

I never used heat on my bruising which like you included a very swollen and bruised pubic (and further south) area. I used ice and it did wonders, although I would think with any injury you use ice the first 24 hours, then apply heat. But for me, I only wanted something cold on me and the doctor thought my bruising would take months to go away it was so bad. At my 3 week check up, all bruising was completely gone and the pubic (and further south) swelling a very distant memory.

Bruising normal?

I too had severe bruising - literally black and blue. It didn't totally suprise me because after a very difficult labour I also had it. It felt like my rump was staying on the bed when I tried to get up.

Glad to say, at 4 wks post-op it appears to be gone and I'm not quite as sore as I was.

I wish I had thought of ice - I applied heat but I bet the ice would have been helpful too.

Bruising normal?

I was a dark purple from my navel to the tops of my thighs. I looked like a purple smurf! The doctor said my severe bruising was caused in part by my hematoma and the force of post surgical vomiting. The bruising took two months to slowly fade a way. Hang in there...
