Question - laprascopy for terrible pain laprascopy for terrible pain

Hello ladies,
I have a question. has anyone gone in for a scope trying to figure out why she was in so much pain and wake up having had a hysterectomy? I just wonder if that will be the case for me, not that I mind. BELIEVE me, the pain is terrible I just wanted to know if anyone went for exploratory surgery to wake up 'empty'. I went to the er last night and sat for almost 12 hours waiting, and enema later and a script for pain meds. What the heck??? Thanks gals.

Re: laprascopy for terrible pain

No, but I've had a laparoscopy looking for pelvic pain he did D& C with novasure at the same time, He said no endo,

the second laparoscopy the following year a different doctor said I had extensive endo, but pathology report said none was found. & 3 weeks ago they did the hysterectomy using the lapracope & it feels like they put the incisions right through my left side in the area of my chronic pain & I believe that's why I'm so sore 3 weeks later, I just went for a walk around the block & my pelvis feel so heavy

This doctor never found the problem, then a doctor in Phili believed the pain is from adenomyosis but he's out of my network the doctor who did the hysterectomy said he was doing it because I've had pain long enough, he would not guarentee my pain would end. I know it's early but as of now, MY pain has not ended, I feel more pressure now than before.

tomarrow is my follow up & I have a ton of questions for him

Re: laprascopy for terrible pain

dani32 - Your doctor should talk very specifically with you regarding under what circumstances an exploratory laparoscopy will turn into a hysterectomy (removal of uterus) or oophorectomy (removal of one or both ovaries). If he/she doesn't, ask. Be clear about what you want and don't be timid. This is your body. Most doctors are hesitant to remove a woman's reproductive organs unless necessary, but don't leave it up to chance. Ask.

pelvicpain - Give your body time to heal. At 3 weeks post-op, your body still has a lot of internal healing to do. What is your doctor doing about your pain? Ask all of your questions, but give yourself some time, too. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

Re: laprascopy for terrible pain

Okay, so I had the scope done and he found NOTHING abnormal. I can honestly say I am so disappointed. Apparently the only thing he seen was my uterus is a bit 'stretched out' but I just had my third baby last march so he said that's fairly common and he thinks that my pain is purely my colon now. I see a gi and he's going to be doing the transient marker test. I am just so very sad that all this has happened and I am in so much pain still. He also said that my fissures (vaginal form the perineorraphy which totally STILL kills and is not right) are a 'mystery' and he gave me anusol to put on them. What did I do to deserve all this? I am so very upset. Thank you for listening to the complaining.

Re: laprascopy for terrible pain

Hi, Danielle.

Please try to dismiss the feeling that you've done something to deserve any of this. You haven't. Our bodies are imperfect, and things go awry. It's not fun. It's not fair. It's just what it is. I know it's tough, but blaming yourself (and feeling like you've done something wrong is blaming yourself) isn't productive.

I totally understand your being disappointed with the doctor finding nothing during the laparoscopy. People will tell you to be glad you didn't find some horrible cancer or something, and they're right, but it's also terribly frustrating to have no answers. Every time a doctor said, maybe it's this, and then found nothing, I felt like he was invalidating my pain. I know now that that's total crap. I don't see in your post if anyone's suspected endo before, but it can be hard to diagnose, and little bits of it that are hart to find can still hurt like the devil.

Go for the GI work-up. Let them scope you and see what's going on. If endo is a suspicion make sure they know that and look for GI involvement. I think that's what I'm dealing with currently, btw. I am starting with my gyn because he is great and never poopoos my pain, and I know he'll be my advocate when it comes to getting me in with a good gastroenterologist who will have experience dealing with patients with endometriosis, adenometriosis, and other gyn-issues (not all do!).

Keep pushing for an answer. You deserve to feel better. When do you go to the GI doctor? Keep us posted.

Question - laprascopy for terrible pain Re: laprascopy for terrible pain

Okay, went to my gyn. He doesn't see or fee anything bad at all. He said everything is "well supported," which I don't understand 100%. He's sending me for an ultrasound to rule out ovarian cyst or something, and he wants me to go for a GI consultation.

GI consult scheduled for 3/30 - with a physician's assistant. I think I want an MD, though. Am I wrong?
