Icky discharge 11 days post hysterectomy

Sorry for tmi but I have suddenly started to get a vaginal discharge. It is greeny yellow and sometimes grainy. Is this normal or should I go to GP? I am 11 days post op. Pains started up again too

Re: Icky discharge

I'm 16 days post op and I'm wondering about discharge too. Mine is pinkish and I have an almost continuous urge to urinate. It is also slightly painful, but only when the bladder is empty, not as it is emptying. I don't think it is a UTI, but there is a slight odor to the discharge. This is all completely unchartered territory for me as my hysterectomy was fairly unexpected and I only had a week to get used to the idea before it was done. Much love to all the hysters here!

Re: Icky discharge

I have not experienced either, but both issues are on my list of when you should immediately call doc or go to ER.

Green discharge - you should call doc right away or go to ER. Ordorous discharge is also on my list to call doc or go to ER.

Better safe than sorry! I'd call right away.

Re: Icky discharge 11 days post hysterectomy

Greenish/yellow discharge should be reported to the doctor. It may be nothing, but it's important to make sure you don't have an infection at the vaginal cuff. I had orange discharge and an unusual odor about 10 days post op. I was concerned about infection, so I went to my GP to get checked. All was well with me and I had no infection.

It is common to have a stronger odor down below as we heal. But a foul or nasty odor should be reported immediately as it could signal infection.

Vaginal Odor Post Op

Pinkish discharge is very common and very likely normal. Since there is an incision healing at the end of the vagina, spotting / discharge / light bleeding may start and stop at random throughout the 6 week initial recovery period.

Unusual urinary symptoms should be reported to the doctor, even if you don't feel it's a UTI. UTI's can present in many different ways and we are at higher risk of getting one post op due to the catheter.

Re: Icky discharge 11 days post hysterectomy

I would call the Dr. that did your surgery. Mine told me to call her with any questions or concerns. She does not want me running to the Emergency Department because the first thing they will do is an exam and they can "mess up" all the work she did. Call your Dr.
