Leg Cramps...Associated with Female Probs?

Hi ladies! I just wondered if anyone else suffers from leg cramps at night? I know I'm anemic from my overflowing monthly's...and I've been given iron pills to help, but I suffer from horrible leg cramps at night when I sleep! Does anyone else? Is this possibly associated with all my female probs or possibly the result of something else? It's usually just down my right leg, starting at my lower back. Which just happens to be my right side, the same side that my ovary has gone bad on. So, I just wondered if there's any connection. What if anything, do you all do to help with the pain? Any info/comments/suggestions are welcomed! Thanks in advance for your help!!! "Sour Mug Angel"

Leg Cramps...Associated with Female Probs?

Hi,

I have the same problem that you have. I only have my right ovary remaining and suffer terrible pains at the top of my right leg. It did originate in my lower back but is now in my leg. The pain can travel all the way down to my ankle (only on bad days though!!).

My doctor has put it down to bad posture and has given me some exercises to do (no help at all).

After speaking to others on this website it does seem that there are quite a lot of ladies who have the same diffculties - it's nice to know that we are not alone.

The only thing that helps me are strong pain killers and a hot-water bottle. The pain is there all the time - mostly as an 'ache' (thankfully) but the pain worsens around the time of my period.

I have my hysterectomy on 30th Jan and I am hoping that the pain in my leg will disappear then (fingers crossed). I won't be a happy chappie if I've still got that to cope with after my op.

Oh, a nice hot (very hot) bath works for me too - although getting up in the middle of the night to have one is not my idea of fun!!

Hope you find something for your leg cramps.

Leg Cramps...Associated with Female Probs?

Sour Mug Angel and Lynn:

I had horrible leg cramps almost every night for the last 6 yrs. I never knew what caused it, I ?'d my doctor and he just attributed it to thinking I probably didn't drink enough water during the day since I stay so busy with my kids. I don't really think so. I drink alot of fluids all day! I had my TAH/BSO on Oct.3rd and I must admit that 3 months have passed since then and NOT ONE LEG CRAMP has woke me up!!!!! I have had NONE!!!!! I BELIEVE that there is a connection to female problems and leg cramps! I was so relieved to have that problem go away!!! So was my DH....he still would wake up "what???!!!" when I would wake up screaming OH, OUCH, OH!!!!! THat is the worst way to wake up and there is just not much you can do to help. I sure hope that y'all find relief with your hysterectomies too!!!!!!!!! I use to have such sore calves all day from the cramps!!! I even got so bad that I was having cramps in my hip. My doctor still has no explanation...but I don't need one. The proof is in how I now feel!!

Best of luck to no more restless legs at night!!!

Leg Cramps...Associated with Female Probs?

Dear Sour Mug Angel,
I used to get leg cramps a lot, and it would wake me up in the middle of the night. My doctor told me I could try taking some Potassium supplements until my surgery. I tried some, and it helped a little, but did not get rid of them. Now, after my tah/bso on 10-27, I have not had any! Another good result from the surgery! Good luck, and hang in there.

Leg Cramps...Associated with Female Probs?

I sure hope you ladies are right! That would be wonderful if all the leg cramps disappear after my LAVH! Not to mention, all the other uncomfortable probs I've experienced! I'll let you know after 1-27-04 and when I start to recover, if they're gone. Or, if I can offer some helpful advice after that. Thanks for the comments...I'll cross my fingers! Good luck to you ladies, too! I'll pray that your symptoms disappear and you'll be pain free in 04'! Hugs...Sour Mug Angel

Me Too

I too get leg cramps, at night and throughout the day. The doctor seems to think that itis because of the progesterone that I was one, plus all the other things my body is going through. They tell me to rest as much as possible and drink, drink drink..water that is

Best wishes!
