megace

I am taking Megace to control bleeding prior to my hysterectomy. I feel like death warmed over. I'm having hot flashes followed by freezing, terrible sweating and nausea but at the same time I'm starving!! I've been on it a week and am seriously barely able to function at work. I'm so emotional that I could just cry at my desk. I talked to the dr's nurse yesterday and after talking to my doc she said I have to be on it right now or will start bleeding heavily ( I am severely anemic and had a blood tranfusion last week). Has anyone else had a hard time with this drug?

Re: megace

What dose are you taking? It reduces your estrogen so presumably brings on menopausal symptoms. I was already menopausal when I started taking it so not many symptoms other than the appetite stimulant effect. How much longer do you have to go on with this? Are there any other alternative meds you could try? Can you move up your surgery date?

Re: megace

There are other options, Lysteda, and a step-up birth control (4 for 4 days, 3 for 3 days, 2 for 2 days). Talk to your doc about alternatives. In my case i ended up having a 3 unit transfusion and my surgery a week later. I know it's tough now but hopefully it will soon be over and you will feel much better like I do.

Re: megace

Thanks for responding ladies. I'm on 40 mg 3 times a day. Bc pills make me sick too so I'm not sure if that would be a better option. I see my doctor in the morning to hopefully schedule surgery and maybe she can change something then. If not I will just suck it up knowing this will all be over soon. I was just thinking of all the pretty panties I'm going to buy
