Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

I need to have my surgery by March 31st due to insurance. What is the general time span after seeing the surgeon and having the surgery.

Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

I was very lucky. When they called to book my surgery there had just been a cancellation so I had the option of a 1 week wait or a 6 week wait. I grabbed the 1 week and in 2 days from now it will be done.
Maybe they can put you on a list to call if someone cancels??
Good luck and 's,
Kimberley

My doc told me on Monday that he thought surgery was the next reasonable step and that his office would call me with a date. They contacted me on Wednesday and surgery was scheduled within five weeks of that call. Contact your doc's office to notify them of the insurance issues, they will fit you in somehow.

Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

Hi! My surgery was for suspected cancer, and it took me just a little over 2 weeks from surgeon appointment to surgery date. Length of time for surgery date varies as does the surgeons, and how far in advance they like to book them. But generally (from what I've learned on this site) cancer patients tend to get a surgery date with less of a waiting time (which is understandable.) I agree with canadianwren, and that you could call the DR's office and explain your situation, and ask to be placed on the cancellation list. Good luck!

Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

Dear Resah,
From the time I went to my family physician with problems ( very heavy period, severe anemia and large clots and low pelvic pressure) to the date of my surgery was exactly 18 days. I was seen by my doc on June 10th, had exams and tests, spoke with a surgeon on the 22nd and was in surgery on the 28th of June. So it is possible. I would just do as the others said and call your doc's office and speak to someone as soon as possible. Good luck to you. Tami S

Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

I went to my g.p. with concerns, and then on to the ob/gyn for an exam and consult, had a lapraoscopy in June 05 and follow up appt. 2 weeks later. She said that I needed the hysterectomy and since it is elective surgery, I should be prepared to wait 3 months. Well, I had my surgery in January! So, it took almost 7 months to get in! This is a typical wait time for our hospital unless you have cancer or some other kind of emergency. I am green with envy of those who are in for their surgery within weeks of seeing the specialist! good for you.

Here's how it went for me:

Jan 27th- Severe pain, Dr. visit, sent in for ultrasounds
Feb 1st- went to Dr. to discuss test results from ultrasounds
Feb 3rd- Pre op appointment (for both D & C, and Hyst)
Feb 7th- D & C, hysteroscopy scheduled.
Feb 27th- LAVH/BSO scheduled
*It all happened pretty fast for me at least

Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

After Friday appointment to deterime TAH would be performed, insurance approval was obtained the following Monday, and surgery scheduled for 8 weeks later. It would have been a three-week wait; however, I'm having three different surgeries performed by three different surgeons, and they had to coordinate schedules. I think the waiting is the worst part, yet know by experience that the date will be here before I know it.

Time span from surgeon visit and surgery

Some gynecologists do surgery every day; others only do it 2 days a month--so it's a lot easier to get an early appointment with the person who does surgery every day. The gynecologist that my PCP first referred me to couldn't do the surgery for 7 weeks (which made it too close to my spring research season), so I asked my PCP for a referral to another surgeon. He scheduled me for surgery 3 weeks later--but only because I explained why I needed an early surgery. If I hadn't explained, the wait would have been 7 weeks also. So: explain why you need an early surgery, and ask for another referral if the first person can't fit you in quickly.
