To do Ooph? Afraid of mood swings, migraine

I'm new here. I'm 46, and 4 MD's have recommended a hysterectomy/oophorectomy. My symptoms are: lifelong migraine sufferer (20+ days/mo), pelvic pain/cramps for about 9 days/mo, bad PMS, 8 days of bleeding/mo. My mother also had a "borderline" malignant ovarian tumor at age 62. I'm afraid to do the surgery for several reasons:
1) I'm not ready for menopause...I have a 6 yr old daughter I need to care for. 2) I'm very afraid of what removing my ovaries will do to my already frequent migraines. I've never been able to take estrogen in any form (the Pill, Nuva ring) because it aggravates my migraines. 3) I'm afraid that my emotional symptoms will be worse than my PMS. On the other hand, I could feel alot better. The problem is, there's no way to predict how it will go. Do I risk having the surgery, knowing that once the ovaries are out, you can't put them back? Are most women's symptoms that I mentioned worse or better after surgery? Please help!

Have any of your doctors been a neurologist? If not, a neurologist may have some answers for you regarding your headaches and what might or might not help. In my case, my neurologist does not think removing my ovaries is a good idea to help with the hormonal migraines.

Have you ever consulted with an endocrinologist or maybe a reproductive endocrinologist? If not, you might see if there are any in your area who help women with PMS and maybe PMDD issues. S/he may have suggestions regarding whether or not removing the ovaries is going to be helpful or not for you.

I hope you find the best answer for you soon!

Re: To do Ooph? Afraid of mood swings, migraine

Hi Weiser,
thanks for answering. I have been seeing a neuro for 25 yrs for my migraines. She says there's no way to predict what the ooph will do for/against my headaches. She said that if I'm having the ooph just for the headaches, not to. But if there are other reasons too (which there are), then to go ahead and do it. This is such a hard decision.

I hadn't thought of the endocrinologist though. I have one already, for another issue. I'll ask him. Good idea. Thanks.
