Can't have intercourse
I had a hysterectomy 3 months ago and tried to have intercourse. My husband did not fit. I could not get him past a certain point.
Feeling inside I felt a couple lines that would not budge and I think that this is what is not letting him in.
Does anyone have this problem? Or does anyone know what I am talking about? I wondered if it is a legament or the inside stitches. Can anyone tell me what it is. I can't not have intercourse for the rest of my life. I don't think my Husband would go for it anyway.
Please help Tina B

Re: Can't have intercourse
Those of us who have gone thru cancer treatments are told to use a dilator to prevent scar tissue from forming and keep the vagina open. Maybe bring this up to your gyno. I don't know if in your situation a dilator would be recommended. But I guess it also depends on the type of hysterectomy you've had. Did you have a radical? Because they often take a portion of the upper vagina making it shorter for some women. I currently do not have a complete vagina, and no cuff either while I go thru more cancer treatments, so I am basically open there with nothing, not even a vaginal cuff. I have attempted sex, haven't had difficulty with him penetrating and now I'm thinking this is because I have to use a dilator everyday. I guess maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask and try this it might work.

Re: Can't have intercourse
Should mention that all a dilator is, is a sex toy, dildo, not sure what all names it goes by. I got mine from my gyno/onco. So it is pretty sterile looking. Just a long hard white tube like thing that looks like a white candle. Nothing fancy about it.

Re: Can't have intercourse
I had my hysterectomy 3 months ago. I have not had sex yet either. Actually I have no interest in it. But...tonite I did try to "take care of myself" just to see If I could be "interested". I could not get the vibrator in me. It was like a wall is up there about 2 inches in....Maybe its a sign..that my sex days are OVER!

Re: Can't have intercourse
HI- I am 6 months post from a RALH- the first time we "did it" i felt the same way, he did too- like there was a wall blocking him from going in all the way...
I think nerves played a part in it consciously or not but after a few tries- all is ok- not ok but GREAT! don't give up or throw in the towel just yet!
I would call your doc if you are concerned- GOOD LUCK!!!
One thing i always tell people to remember is PATIENCE!!!!

Re: Can't have intercourse
I had my back and front fixed along with the hysterectomy. Vaginally
I thought I would work at getting my husband in more than 2 inches. But it has not worked yet. Painful and just won't go passed the 2 in. point. We are going to keep trying for awhile before I ask the Dr.

Re: Can't have intercourse
(((Tina B))) I'm glad you mentioned that you had A&P repairs. Please, have your DR take a look, OK?
It's not very common, but this happened to me: I had a vaginal adhesion form connecting the anterior and posterior repair incisions about halfway up the vagina. It was a bridge of scar tissue about the thickness of your pinkie finger and it would not budge! I had it removed in an outpatient surgery about 3 months after my hysterectomy, used plenty of vaginal estrogen to help the area heal properly, and have never looked back.

-Linda
