Surgery next month - hys with a bladder tack..have questions please

I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy (leaving ovaries) on July 8th and am very happy about it.

I had my pre-surgery appt yesterday with my doc and did all my preadmission testing, ect and she recommended I have my bladder tacked while I'm having my other surgery. Since my daughter's birth nine years ago I have had problems with leakage, especially if I sneeze or laugh, ect. She said it will be a simple procedure but for some reason I'm nervous about it even though the thought of the hysterectomy does not bother me - go figure. She told me about the procedure and everything but I did have a question regarding the catheter I forgot to ask her. Also if the procedure has worked for other people. Do you have to wear a catheter for a period of time after..I"m prone to UTI & bladder infections so this is not something I would look forward to.

I also had one question about PMS after my surgery. My doc said I would still have mood swings (I have really bad PMS and am on Wellbutrin to help it). I was hoping all that crap would go away as well. Can anyone tell me their experience with mood swings/PMS after surgery.

Thanks everyone and I look forward to your responses.

Re: Surgery next month - hys with a bladder tack..have questions please

Dear Dawn1001!
I had a TVH (kept ovaries) on June 8th with A & P repairs (bladder and bowel/rectum). I had prolapse issues from having very large babies. I am 3 weeks post-op today and am feeling great! Remember everyone heals and recovers differently. With the technology of today, you should not worry, this will fix the issues of leakage. Remember to follow your Dr. restriction and keep reading the posts of our fellow sisters! It was and still is a wonderful resource of information 1st hand.
I have not had any issues with hot flashes, etc. My Dr. said I shouldn't have any. She mentioned Estrogen will help, I will be asking her more about this when I see her tomorrow for my 1st post-op appointment.
I wish for you good luck and a speedy recovery, you will do great!!
