6 week post op bleeding

I am 6 weeks post op and thought I was doing so well, but I found blood on my pantiliner this morning. What could this be? Have I torn something? We live an hour from hospital and /or walk in clinics so don't want to panic and rush off.

Re: 6 week post op bleeding

It probably depends on how much blood is there and have you been having spotting prior to this? If you have had spotting, I wouldn't worry too much. I think the rule is a pad an hour and you need to worry. If you had no spotting and suddenly are getting blood, then I would call my doc. It probably isn't much to worry about, but definitely monitor it. Also are you running any temperature? That would be a worry.

Re: 6 week post op bleeding

no temp and not much blood. Just surprised me! Will keep tabs and we are going to go to nearby the hospital in case it gets worse. Thanks. I probably did something stupid! moved a chair and this may have not been a good idea even tho it was a small dining room one. I must admit I am getting terribly antsy to get going on things. Hubby works a lot of OT and I am beginning to feel guilty at what is not getting done.

Re: 6 week post op bleeding

Hi Clanny! I had spotting since day one of surgery. When I did too much in a day it would get worse. I was concerned and called at about week 3-4 and the doctor said all was normal. I went in for my 6 week post-op appt. last Monday and had to have a treatment of silver nitrate to stop the bleeding. Apparently there were granulations where my vaginal cuff was healing...You can look this up by searching silver nitrate and vaginal cuff in the search engine here.

The treatment was easy...just a quick office visit. Do you have a post-op coming up anytime within the next couple of weeks?

At the very least you should give your doctors office a call on Monday and let them know you are still spotting/bleeding. In the meantime, follow Zeny's advice about filling a pad in an hour or spiking fever. If either of those things occur, head to the hospital.

Best of luck to you!!! :-)

Re: 6 week post op bleeding

Be very, very careful about lifting, pulling, pushing. Anything and I do mean anything that involves your abdominals can cause huge problems. It is easy to pull something without thinking about it. In my case, it was me trying to shove my golden into a car. He was fine, me not so much. So I learned to let others help me and not try to do too much.

Re: 6 week post op bleeding

I didn't spot very much after my Sub total Hyst. just a very little amount of dirty discharge for like a day or two. I have been clear every since until the past few days. I"'m enter week 4 and I was having a little dirty discharge, very little on my panty liner and a little when I'd wipe after using the bathroom. Last night I had a few spots of RED blood! I prayed I"d never see another stain of blood from down there again! LOL I'm wondering if this is normal or is it a sign that I"m over doing it? (I really don't think that I am though)?

Re: 6 week post op bleeding

Ladies,
I am five weeks post op and have been spotting on and off from week one. It does seem to be worse when I have clearly over-done. I called my Dr.'s Nurse Practitioner at week 3 and she said it's normal to spot for 6 weeks. Mostly it's when I wipe, but a few times I have seen a small amount on my panty liner. The past few days it seems worse, but I think my stitches are dissolving. I can see little specks which I am assuming are pieces of stitches. I didn't have a pelvic exam at my first post op at two weeks. My next one was scheduled for April 5th. Well, I got a call from my Dr.'s office and they said they needed to move it out to April 19th because he was going to be out of town for Spring Break. I understand that he has a life too, but it aggravated me because I am anxious to make sure I am healing correctly. Guess I will just have to wait.

Hope you ladies have a nice day today and a good week ahead.
