I agree that it's too risky without a doctor's permission.
Listen to your favorite music, read, watch a favorite movie - and even if you don't sleep, you will be ok. Many of us are up the night before surgery - I had to leave 4:30 am as my surgery was scheduled for the first thing in the morning, and the hospital was far away. I was so afraid I'd oversleep that I watched tv and just dozed a bit.
