Getting ready to start bowel prep

Well, in just about 3 hours I get to start my bowel prep. At 6 pm, I have to drink the bottle of Magnesium Citrate. Then all day tomorrow will be liquid diet and at 6 pm Thursday, more bowel prep. I then drink 8 servings of Miralax. I ate breakfast this morning and did have a funnel cake at the fair around noon, but haven't eaten anything else today. I can eat normally today, but not really sure I want to eat much before the prep. I'm nervous, but, ready to be done! I really hope I'm not up all night tonight or tomorrow night with the prep. 6 pm seems a little late to start it....I have to be at the castle at 6:15 am (and have a 30+minute drive) on Friday for 7:45 surgery.

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

I am not sure about the Miralax but the Mag Citrate was not hard for me. I didn't even have a stomach cramp.

I wish you the best with this final preparation and with your surgery and recovery!

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

I have done the Mag. citrate prep before, it really isn't too bad. Mine was a 10oz. bottle that I drank around 8pm and I was cleaned out by morning. I did have to get up a few times in the night, but not too many. I didn't have to do the Miralax though.

Hope things go smoothly for you. Best of luck with your surgery!!

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

Well, it took me almost an hour to get it down. It was nasty, but I mixed it with grape gatorade and it was a little bit better. Ugh...I feel like I'm gonna puke...trying to decide if I feel like eating dinner or not...

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

I"m wishing you well Constanz2. Soon you will be on the otherside like me. Yesterday was pretty good. I felt good and everything, but today has been really hard. I've been hurting most of the day. Nothing that you can't deal with, but the pain meds just isn't cutting it. Hope you do great. It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would have been. The nurses were very good. I hope you have a great experience and aren't to scared.

Best of luck with everything. You'll be in my prayers.

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

Thanks ladies! I haven't had anything happen yet from the Mag Citrate...I finished it 2 1/2 hours ago! I hardly ate anything today, so, probably not a lot in me, but I did decide to eat a half sandwich a little while ago. I really thought stuff would be happening by now! Maybe it won't be so bad!

hygienist~ Thanks! I love reading your posts! I'm not surprised today was a little rough for you...From what I've read here, day 3 is bad. I'm glad your recovery is going so well and I hope mine is just good! I'm actually feeling pretty calm. I just want it to be here and over with now! I was so worried about the liquid diet tomorrow cuz I am ALWAYS hungry, but, I barely ate anything today. I think the nerves and anxiety help with the hunger, at least! Thanks again!

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

Well, nothing started moving til about 11 pm. I was up several times during the night and around 5 am I was going non stop for about an hour. Still going this morning. Now, I'm wondering/worried if I should start the Miralax earlier than 6 pm tonight! I can't be still emptying my bowels at 5 am tomorrow cuz I've gotta leave by 5:30 am to get to the hospital!

It has not been horrible. Not as bad as I expected. I haven't had any cramping and I really thought it'd be worse. So...that's good, I guess!

Re: Getting ready to start bowel prep

I talked to the doctor's office today and the nurse said I can start the Miralax any time. I don't have to wait til 6 pm, so, that's good, I guess. Right now, I'm actually enjoying a couple hours of NOT running to the bathroom, so, I'm thinking I'll start it early afternoon. Maybe 2-3 pm. Anyone else that has done the Miralax, how fast does it work? I really don't want to be up all night and I want to be "done" before I leave for the hospital at 5:30 am. Any advice? I was somewhat surprised how long it took the Mag. Citrate to work for me...

Another note, I hate jello, but, man, does it taste good when it's one of the only things you can eat! LOL!
