Catheters

After hysterectomy, how long does the catheter stay in? Does it hurt when it is removed? March 10th is the big day.

Catheters

Mine was in for about 24 hours. It just stings a bit when it comes out. Goid luck with your surgery. I am going home today from mine.

Re: Catheters

I was worried about the catheter prior to surgery too. I had my op 3 weeks ago and am in the UK where thing are a little different I know. Coming round from surgery I couldn't feel the catheter at all, in fact I was glad it was there as I didn't want to move off my bed initially. My surgeon wanted the catheter removed after 12 hours. I can honestly say that it gave me no pain or discomfort, just a weird sensation when it was removed (that lasted for 1 second). I started passing water independently without difficulty and didn't get a water infection. It's easy to say don't worry but try not to. All the best x

Re: Catheters

They took mine out a couple hours after the surgery. Didn't hurt...felt a little weird for a second when the nurse was taking it out.

Re: Catheters

They took mine out before I was awake. I don't know if it was in recovery or when I got to my regular room.

Re: Catheters

Mine was in for 2 days. They put it in during surgery. It didn't hurt at all coming out, just a strange sensation. What a god send to have it in though. You didn't have to get up to go. I guess it would depend how long you are in the hospital for.

Re: Catheters

I had my catheter for 24 hours. Honestly, having it was the worst part of the whole hospital stay! When they took it out, it burned for a second, but that sensation went away quickly, and I was ready to start walking, walking, walking!

Good luck!
