Re: what to pack??

I was in the hosp for 4 days and honestly i packed nothing but slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste and face wipes which i never used. The hosp gave me everything i asked for and honestly i didnt feel good enough to do anything. I figured if i needed anything i would have my hubby bring it with him when he came up. I had some magazines from visitors but was never awake long enough to read. The pain meds kept me pretty mucch in and out of sleep. The hospital provided me with my tummy binder i would ask the hsp if they provide one if not i highly recommend it. Good luck on ur surgery and remember someone is always here for you if you are curious about anything.

Re: what to pack??

It is an elastic band that goes around your belly, it holds ur belly together and eases the swelly belly and pain. I woke up with mine on right from the operating room.

Re: what to pack??

Ur welcome, also make sure u a ready for when u come home. If u r going to be alone at all make sure everything u need is at arms reach meaning u dont have to reach up and stretch to get anything. Do u have to do a bowel prep before surgery? If so babywipes r a must and a few good magazines in the bathroom is helpful.

Re: what to pack??

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do the bowel prep, was hoping I could just do the no eating after mignite thing....since I'm still breastfeeding I'm trying not to use too musch and be down too long.

I went to the store and stocked up on easy stuff for my husband and the kids to get during the week. Do u think I will be able to pick up the bay??, I keep reading that I won't ...

Which one will be better to use, ice or heat?? And do u know if we r able to get in the pool or hot tub after surgery??
You have been most helpful.

Re: what to pack??

As always listen to what ur doctor says and ask all the questions u can before u leave the hsp. I was discharged with instructions to not lift more than 5 lbs, i had my surg may 29 and it was open incision so i just got released to lift ocassionally and only when necessary anything over 10 lbs. As your insides need a lot more time to heal. I never used ice or heat but sisters on my recovery thread found ice to be most helpful. Once u have ur surgery i would recommend finding your surg. Date recovery thread. That is the place where u will find women who had surg around ur date and u can find a lot of info there. I just started doing heavy hluse cleaning, vacuuming, cleaning floors etc ... i wasnt able to drive til the 4th. Week. Like i mentioned before all doctors are different so make sure u always ask ur doctor before u do anything.

Re: what to pack??

I was really glad I brought lip balm and hand lotion to the hospital. Even if I hadn't stayed overnight, I would have been grateful for them. Those are the only two things I really needed. I'd advise slip-on shoes because it will be hard to bend over to tie laces or do straps up.

Most doctors don't allow swimming or baths/hot tubs for a few weeks after surgery. It's mostly because of the risk of infection. But, as all doctors are different, it's a good idea to ask.
