LSH- Cramping- 3 weeks post hysterectomy.

I had an LSH on 10-4... I went to Disney World and walked about 25 miles over 3 days at the beginning of this week... no real issues... a little soreness and cramping but nothing major... Carried my bag that was my stuff and my sons... Got home on Wednesday night... BAD cramping yesterday and some today too... Bag was about 40 lbs... Thoughts?

Hi Sarah , it sounds like u over did it. Were your lifting restrictions lifted by your dr ? 40 pounds sounds like too much for just 3 weeks out. Get your feet up a lot this weekend with ice and rest. It should help : ) feel better

Ice where? The cramping woke me up last night... i was wondering if heat would work like it did with period cramps..I am supposed to go to a party tonight... is that a 'no'?

I seem to be ok when i am laying down but when i sit up there is more pain and cramping...

Yes, I was given a 10 lbs restriction... the 40 lbs was luggage... Did i damage anything?

Re: LSH- Cramping- 3 weeks post hysterectomy.

I had an LSH back in May. I was walking around 1 to 1-1/2 miles at week 3; 3 miles at week 6. My thoughts are that at 3 weeks, walking 25 miles and carrying or dragging 40# bags, you overdid it. A 10# restriction is that - 10 pounds. Most sources you read here recommend no pushing or pulling, which includes grocery carts, mopping, sweeping, mowing the lawn, yard work like raking. Those activities use the core muscles more than we realize... until we don't have them. Dragging 40-pound luggage is probably too much at this point. A good guide on Hysterectomy Restrictions is here.

As for any damage, that'd be for your doctor to check, though he can mainly check what he can see. If something ruptured internally you might not know unless you have issues down the road as one of my neighbors did from doing too much too soon. It really helps to understand healing: it's not in a straight line with scar tissue getting stronger. Instead, healing comes in stages - earlier scar tissue dissolves as it's replaced by newer scar tissue. It's during that dissolving that we're likely to feel tugging and zingers, and also when we're more likely to rupture something. This happens throughout our healing. You might not have caused any damage whatsoever, but this is your body's way of saying "Stop! I need rest!"

Stay reclining, take ibuprofen, and really rest for the next few days. No grocery shopping, no parties, no housecleaning. If the pain continues, put a call into your doctor's office and let them know what's up - you might want to anyway. They'll know the right questions to ask, and do be honest with them so they can determine what, if anything, you should do.

Now... rest! Sisters' orders!

thank you for the link! when i sit on the couch, I sit cross legged... and that seems to cause more pain... I know what you are thinking... "well stop doing that" and I did... i was just throwing that out there too... Ok... i will call the doctor... sadly... I hate being that girl... but i really hope i didn't do any damage... i am supposed to go back to work on Monday...

Re: LSH- Cramping- 3 weeks post hysterectomy.

Don't beat yourself up, Sarah. You're not the first, you won't be the last. When we start feeling better, it's deceptively easy to think we can pick up where we left off pre-op. I went on a 4 hour shopping trip at 12 days. I needed casual and work clothes to accommodate swelly belly (I was wholly unprepared in that regard). Though I didn't drive far and took a lot of rests while shopping, by the time I made it home - we were at mom-in-law's house - my back was killing me because of that lack of core strength and I really swelled up. I fell asleep in a recliner at 7pm and got up for the sole purpose of goig to bed! For me, it was barely 1/2 a day, and I was fine the following day. Point remains that it's easy to overdo it, for any of us.

You are not defeated, you are human. There is no prize for healing first and doing too much. I know how you feel, I just want to get moving and for my life to get back to normal. I want to be able to pick up my cat without my husband yelling at me to watch it.. ( to be fair, I have a rather large cat)..

From what I have read on this site, post op damage can really be awful, and is mostly caused by not heeding dr's recovery advice. Activity, intimacy, ... etc.

So, grab some old movies or a good book. Feet up, take pain meds. Call the DR and ask what to watch out for ... you will be fine and are amazing. Don't doubt that. Just listen to your body!

THANK YOU! Thank you so much! Took Advil and it's not touching the pain... Percocet it is...

Re: LSH- Cramping- 3 weeks post hysterectomy.

It sounds like you may have done a bit too much. It is so hard to be restricted. I know I have had days where a feel really good and think, "I can handle doing this," only to suffer for it the next day. Rest and give yourself a break for a few days and then slowly ease back in.
