LSH scheduled

I am scheduled for a LSH on april 13. my dr is not 100% he will not have to do it abdominally because of 3 c-sections and scar tissue. my children are 8,8,6 and 2. I have my mother staying with me for the first 10 days. After that---shouldn't I be okay (if it is done LSH) or do i need additional help. I have no idea what to expect...been reading all of the comments but still would appreicate any other advise.

Re: I am being completely unrealistic about LSH recovery

After the initial 10 days I still needed help with:
- Grocery shopping (cannot push the cart or lift the bags)
- Cleaning (not allowed to vacuum)
- Laundry (changing and washing sheets, washing towels)
- Lifting heavy items or moving items requiring reaching and climbing on ladder/step stool
- Pushing trash carts out

Re: LSH scheduled

I had help for the first two weeks. After that I still felt pretty helpless, but I could take care of myself and get myself something to eat, etc. But I don't have any small children. You might want to get someone to help out with the little ones for awhile. Remember you're not supposed to lift anything heavy for a few weeks. And you'll probably be tired alot too.

Re: LSH scheduled

Hi Ramseycl,

My younger sister had an abdominal myomectomy a few years ago for the removal of a grapefruit sized fibroid and she then went on to have 2 c-sections with my two nieces. My sister had a LSH in 2007 (the same surgery type I had) for reoccurring fibroids.

You might ask your Dr. what his conversion rate is from a laparoscopic to an abdominal hyst. Generally, Drs can give it in a % or in the number of hysts they have performed in the last few years.

Sending best wishes~

Re: LSH scheduled

Thanks to all the responces. I just found out a friend of mine sent out an email to a large group of our friends about my surgery. She has over 15 meals scheduled to be brought to my family(hubby, 8 year old twin girls, 6 year old son and 2 year old daughter) the first 3 weeks. Is that a little excessive? I feel horrible about accepting meals like that. IT IS what we do here in the South----cook whenever anyone dies or has a baby---but a hysterectomy? i don't know. Should I call some of that off or just wash all the make up off my face and put my pj's back on before they are scheduled to arrive?? :-)

Re: LSH scheduled

Hi Ramseycl,

I would say...accept the meals. It is human nature to want to help out..and that is what all your friends want to do. Receiving flowers and cards can be normal in post-op...and getting meals is a really nice gesture!!

If you are concerned about (15) different visits while you are in post-op...maybe you can get a few closer friends to gather up the meals and they can bring them over in 2-3 vistis instead.

I might suggest you get a small box of thank-you cards and you can work on them and mail them out in post-op.

Sending best wishes again~

Mary
