LAVH: My upcoming hysterectomy 9/16

I'm scheduled to have surgery on 09/16/15. I'm scared, terrified, and been very emotional since early this morning. There are always risk with any surgery and one is filled with so many emotions. I've been in the medical field for 20 years, and I'm the one comforting the patient and giving them words of encouragement, when having a hysterectomy. I'm on the other side now, and I have no idea to handle it. It's so true when someone says, you don't what a patient is going through or feeling, until it's actually happening to you.

All of your emotions and fears are completely normal. Having a hysterectomy is such an overwhelming experience. This is such a difficult surgery to face and digest. Have patience with yourself, it is okay to have the emotions churning away.

When I was told I needed a hysterectomy, I went to my car and I several times more before my surgery, and many more times after. I mourned the loss of my uterus and ovaries for some time after. This was very difficult for me.

Just know that you are not alone in this, and thaw you have landed on a site where everyone understands what you are going through.

My surgery is the 16th also, having TAH. I'm an oncology nurse and know exactly what you mean. We are so accustomed to taking care of others and comforting them...it is so hard being the patient! I'm nervous also! Best of luck to you! Let's keep in touch after surgery 😊

That sounds great! What time is your surgery? I have to be there at 6:30am.

Mine is scheduled for 10:30 am. I sure will have no sleep the night before.!😩
