Hypothyroidism & TAH?

I have hypothyroidism and am wondering whether my dosage will need to be adjusted post-TAH. Has anyone else with hypothyroidism found that your thyroid function was affected after losing your ovaries?

Re: Hypothyroidism & TAH?

I also have hypothyroidism and asked my oncologist the same question. He said it would not change anything, but due to weight loss, etc., I am going to go to my primary care physician and have them check it out anyway....

I know that doesn't answer your question, but hope it will make you feel more comfortable if you want to just get rechecked also.

Re: Hypothyroidism & TAH?

I also have hypothyroidism, my thyroid dose has not been changed and my TSH was checked a few months post op and the level was fine. Don't worry your PCP will want to keep an eye on you post op (at least mine did). Good luck.

Re: Hypothyroidism & TAH?

I also have hypothyroidism and I will find out Friday if I had any changes. I just got bloodwork yesterday. My doctor (gyn/onc) put me on Premarin. My concern was if you are synthroid (or the generic form of it) Premarin can mess up those levels. He said do not worry about it but we shall see come Friday.

I will comeback and tell you what my GP says.

Re: Hypothyroidism & TAH?

I'm hypothyroid and my gp said he wanted to check my levels several weeks after my surgery. When he did, I was still low and he double the dose of meds I was taking. I could honestly tell a difference when I started the higher dose too. I'd been feeling very lethargic and fuzzy-headed after the surgery and the new dose seemed to help with some of that. If no one suggests checking your levels, I'd ask for it.
