Hello I am a NEWBIE!

I live in Miami, and have been having problems with Bleeding in between periods on and off since this past April. In July, I had a Ultrasound, and was told that I had a Fibroid Tumor and 2 cysts on my left Ovary. Not only that, but, my IUD(lippes Loop) is still inside my uterus after 20 years. So, I had a D & C and they could NOT retrieve the IUD. So, now after seeing this 3rd Doc. yesterday, I was told I would have to have a Hysterectomy. I am 45 and have not gone into Menopause as yet. So, needless to say, I have LOTS of questions and need advice also! My Surgery date is tentatively for Feb. 23. So far, there is NO cancer cells that they know of, so that is good. My questions are as follows: 1. Is it good to have a epidural? I do not want to be "put under" so to speak. 2. If I keep an ovary, will I postpone the Menopause? Thanks!

Hello I am a NEWBIE!

Hi, I'm new, too. I just found out I will get a TAH and maybe BSO on Feb. 11. I have at least 3 huge fibroids and maybe more. My uterus weighs 800 grams. Yes, 800. And I thought I was just getting fat.

I have the option of keeping my ovaries, but since I am 47 my Dr. suggested doing the whole works and getting it all over with at once. I think I am ready for it all to be done. I so appreciate this website. It is really helping me to adjust to the new stage of life that is beginning!! I am a middle school teacher and have to wear 2 tampons and a pad or else I leak all over during class. Today I had to excuse myself and leave the class alone...not good right before the holiday... Only one more cycle to go!

Hello I am a NEWBIE!

Hi! I'm a Newbie, too! It is so nice to have found a place where we all have so much in common and so many are available to offer advice and encouragement. I had a total hysterectomy in Sept...Stage 1-B ovarian cancer. I just completed 4 chemo treatments (Taxol and Carboplatin)!!! Yeah! Things are looking great for me and I am feeling so much better! For those of you facing a hysterectomy and/or cancer...there is life after both! I am taking Bellamine-S for hot flashes and so far it seems to be working...can't have HRT.
I'm just thrilled that my sister told me about this site!!!
