Day 13 and Stitches not Disolving?

How long before you begin to see traces of your dissolved stitches? I'm almost at 2 weeks post op and nothing has come out yet. Do I need to be concerned?

Re: Day 13 and Stitches not Disolving?

Stitches dissolve depending on what type of suture material was used. If you get your operative report, it will state what was used and you can google the time they take to dissolve on there. Mine, if I recall right, were to dissolve from 57 to 72 days...so at around the 2 month mark.

Re: Day 13 and Stitches not Disolving?

Thanks Danni. I was told they would dissolve in 10 - 12 days when I was being discharged from hospital. I did have them checked by my GP last week and she said they were healing ok. I just expected to start seeing them come out by now.

Hello,

This may be a dumb question but are you talking about the internal stitches? I had a tah (cervix and uterus removed) on 7/26/11. How do they come out? Through a b.m or do they just fall out? I thought dissolvable mean't they just sort of melt away..Lost :-)

Re: Day 13 and Stitches not Disolving?

yes internal stitches, i had everything removed and a bladder fix , so the vaginal canal was stitched across at the top. the stitches work theyre way down the vagina i usually see one on the toilet paper after wiping from peeing. they look dissolved. kinda clear in little bits.

Re: Day 13 and Stitches not Disolving?

Saw my first set at three weeks and another set at five weeks. Like others have said, mostly on toilet paper. They were about 1/8 long....very tiny and easy to miss. Guess all that experience of checking for spotting has really paid off!

These are the stitches at the back of the vagina. They mostly dissolve but little bits of them will come out though the vagina. You usually should see them when you wipe after peeing.
