Fibromyalgia & Recovery from TAH/BSO

Hello there,

I am having a TAH/BSO on the 17th of this month and was wondering if there is anybody out there who is also suffering from Fibromyalgia(FMS)?

Much Thanks

Fibromyalgia & Recovery from TAH/BSO

Oh yeah! Part of the reason I finally had surgery was because my fibro dr. and my hormone dr. agreed that my female problems were making my fibro. worse. Several ladies on this site with fibro gave me tips on what to expect. I was lucky and had a LAV so your recovery will be a little slower than mine. The big thing is follow all the pre and post op guidelines on this site. I have needed more rest and of course our immune systems are weaker. Between post op doctor visits and one short walk through the grocery store while I got a prescription filled with hubby, I came down with the intestinal flu and pink eye this week. (and I thought I was being soo careful!) I haven't really crashed or had excessive fibro pain but I am very tired and obviously my immune system is weak. I had surgery8/26. I was allowed to keep taking my pain meds and my Lyrica even the day of surgery, just no asprin products or ibuprofen. Good luck, it is doable even with fibro.

Thanks joebob! I must admit I am concerned the fibro will flare up. However, if it happens, it happens. I have found that it will come on even if I am very careful about what I do. My fibro makes me fatigued, causes pain and loss of mobility in my arms amongst other things, so I will definately be needing my hubby to help me change positions alot!

Its good to read you have supportive doctors who concur with one another. After concluding that I didn't have MS, my neurologist diagnosed my fibro rather off handidly (is that a word? :-0) and told me to get a personal trainer and take depression medication for my treatment. If this didn't help then I was to undertake cognative therapy.

Hmmm....lets see...I understand that I exercise is beneficial for fibro but a personal trainer is pushing it. And as for the depression medication all it did was make me dopey in the morning. It didn't reduce the pain or help me sleep as it was meant to. I am no longer taking them.

So in all honesty I am afraid to go back to him because I know the cognative therapy is next. Has your Dr ever mentioned this to you? I feel like he thinks this is all in my head!

I would really appreciate your thoughts.

I have CFS. I just made sure I did not ever overdo anything. I was very careful to rest all day for weeks. Our bodies have lots to deal with when there are other problems.
