Upcoming hysterectomy 1/12: 4 days out and scared

Hi ladies,
This is my first post. Four days until surgery (1/12) and I'm pretty scared. I guess it really sank in after I had a pre op phone interview with a hospital nurse. I was so anxious by the end of the day I e-mailed my Dr. to see if they could perscribe me something for the morning before surgery. They said yes and I'm hoping it helps. Actually already feel better knowing I will be more relaxed and I'm so glad I asked. I have plenty to keep me busy getting things ready so I'm hoping that helps. Good luck to all the rest of you pre-ops out there!

Hi hopeful2day to HysterSisters!

All of your fears, nerves, feelings, and emotions are very normal. This is one tough surgery to face and digest. I remember thinking during my pre-op "This surgery really is going to happen, isn't it"

Keeping yourself busy does help. Also, treat yourself to something special before your surgery that does not violate your doctor's orders. Maybe a or or outing with friends .

Just know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you, and will be by your side throughout the process.

Welcome! My surgery is scheduled for the same day as yours. I'm pretty nervous as well.

Hi and Welcome!

Stress and anxiety can really drive one crazy - it did me. My doctor allowed me take a Xanax the night before surgery and my anesthesiologist put a sedative in my IV - perhaps you can discuss this with your doctor to see if these actions may be options for you.

Here is a link to an article you may find interesting:

Can My Anesthesiologist Help My Anxiety?

I know it's hard not to stress, but try to stay focused as Maretail suggested. Make time in the next few days before surgery to read a favorite magazine or book, or watch a favorite movie. Staying positive really does help.

Hugs and best of luck.

Hi,
I had my surgery on the 21st Dec so three weeks ago today. I was fine initially then the three days before was so scared I almost felt I was having panic attacks. I didn't have anything before going to hosp to calm me, and strangely once I was there I was fine ( well except for the moment they wheeled me in.. I was a bit teary then). They offered me something while I was waiting ( 4 hrs ) but if I had taken it I would have had to stay in the bed.
Pleased you are already feeling better about things. Post surgery don't forget to check out your post op forum the information, advice and just the care for each other on the site is incredible.
All the best for your surgery.
