Aug 2nd LAVH, Disney in late October or November?
Hello all....some kind of scheduling conflict with Dr. and I am now Aug 2 not Aug 9th. Shaking now!
It actually will help.....I am thinking of planning a Disney trip sometime later this fall. I am thinking that we wanted to maybe go around Halloween or perhaps even Thanksgiving so moving it up will put a little more time between the hysterectomy and our trip.
Will I have the energy I need to do this amount of walking at 10 weeks after surgery?
Thanks,
LL

Hi Lisa,
As a self-professed Disney-phile, I cannot answer your question thoroughly without knowing whether you mean Disney World or Disneyland. (Been to the former 14 times, the latter 10.)
Just kidding, I can answer either way.
I went to Disneyland 4 weeks out of surgery, and got one of those electric scooters (knowing there was no way at all I'd be able to walk that much). It was an invaluable help, and well worth the $50. Anyone can get one, and you don't need a doctor's note. All Mickey requires is a credit card.
I then went to Disneyland California Adventures 8 weeks out, and got a scooter again. Still well worth it.
I should also note that I wasn't able to go on any of the rides that jerk you in any way. My body flat out told me "no." I tried to go on the seemingly innocuous Peter Pan's flight and just getting on it at the exit and riding to the entrance was too much so I jumped off.
A bonus to the carts: at Disneyland, having one allows you and your party to get right on the ride at the exit. At DCA, you have to wait in the normal queue as this park is way newer, and the lines accommodate the scooters.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Re: Aug 2nd LAVH, Disney in late October or November?
So maybe what I am hearing is that we should wait until the Spring....that probably makes more sense Scholastically. The Schools here fast track and stress the kids out to crazy levels so that the CRCT testing can be done....then they let them relax and have extra recess time, etc. Instead of slowly teaching throughout the year and making sure the kids understand Math, etc. they go as fast as they can and teach so the kids can pass the CRCT not truly understand.
I am talking Disney Orlando, we went when my daughter was really young and she barely remembers it so we want to go back. It was a lot of fun but if I can't ride anything, we might wait until early Spring right before school lets out.
Funny story about that Peter Pan ride. My Mother went with us and when bording, the ride doesn't stop. You step onto a moving sidewalk and then board the ride before smashing face first into the wall. But my Mother is 70 plus and never mastered the moving sidewalk plus she has vertigo. She had one foot on steady land and one on the moving sidewalk and panicked. She froze as her legs got farther apart until my husband grabbed her right before she impersonated a cheerleader doing a split. We still laugh at her about that.
My husband said he would rather go to hell than stand in a two hour line with a bunch of sweaty, stinky people like sardines on 95 degree heat.
Going in early Spring will give me time to save up vacation time at work as this surgery will take most of mine up.
Thanks,
LL

Re: Aug 2nd LAVH, Disney in late October or November?
I can tell you that we took my husband to Disney World for Christmas shortly after he was able to walk following 6 months off of his foot. We got the chair, obtained a temporary handicap tag for the rental car/car from the doctor (just ask the doctor, it is not hard to get and worth it), the tag provided up front parking, and every single line in the park was like the parting of the Red Sea.
If you do simple rides and nothing really strenuous, you should be fine.
Enjoy
