Bladder Damage Post-Op - NO urine output

Hi Everyone,

I had a supracervical laporascopic hysterectomy on Monday, April 8th. I was released the same day while only being able to pee a little bit. I was in horrible pain (and could only pee a little) overnight and my Dr. said it was a UTI from the catheter and ordered antibiotics. By the next morning (Tuesday) I was so bloated and in pain I went to the ER. They did a bladder scan and a Foley catheter and drained well over 2 liters of urine from me. My Dr. told me to come to his office in two days to remove the catheter. He did so on Friday at 11AM but I still couldn't pee by 3PM so back to the ER. They gave me another catheter and drained 800ml. My Dr. did call the next day and said to keep the catheter for 10 days to give my bladder time to heal. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone tell me if I will ever be able to pee like a normal person? Thanks for any advice/guidance you can give!!!

Re: Bladder Damage Post-Op - NO urine output

I had a laproscopic hysterectomy removing everything but my left ovary. Had severe bleeding for years when I shouldn't have been bleeding and severe pain. During the surgery the dr found severe endometriosis all over, even on my bowels and my cervix had wrapped itself around rectum. The dr also put some stitches in my bladder to pull it up since I was leaking urine during coughing, sneezing, exercising, etc. I did stay overnight in the hospital. The next morning around 8:30 the nurse removed my catheter, I couldn't go pee enough to let me leave without the catheter. I had it in my place 6 days. I was worried like you about ever peeing normal again. I literally was praying to God when the nurse took it out on the 6th day that I would be able to go. Praise God I did. Drink plenty of fluids right now and when the catheter is removed. I drank a lot of water and cranberry juice. I know some say its an old wives tale about cranberry juice and preventing UTIs, but it can't hurt to drink it and a nurse also recommended it. I also take a cranberry pill everyday along with still drinking at least one glass of juice. It will get better. Sometimes it still isn't completely "normal" but it's pretty good! The nurse told me this happens sometimes with hysterectomies, our bodies have gone through a lot and the bladder needs to wake up. I know how you feel right now, it is scary and frustrating, but it WILL get better! Hugs to you.

Re: Bladder Damage Post-Op - NO urine output

My cath was removed post op 4/10. I feel like my bladder is always full. I've complained about it since post op. The discharge doc said I may have a bladder infection and prescribed meds but the overwhelming desire to urinate does not go away. I hope you are all doing better
