dVH/RALH: 21 stairs to come home day after surgery

Karmanda128 I read somewhere on one of these posts to take the stairs backwards, it uses less abdominal muscles which makes total sense. I only have 4 stairs to get into my home, and I am scheduled for the RALH on June 9. Wish I could remember where I seen this info, anyways hope this helps!

I saw the same thing it was on this site maybe the tips section....?

I am having a TAH/BSO on September 1 and I have 30 some deep steps at my apartment building, I have trouble getting up them now.... do you think it would be a good idea to plan on spending 2 weeks at my mom's who has a ramp?

I had LAVH and I was up and down the stairs a without any complications. It's best to be cautious and take it easy, only you'll know how you feel after the surgery. But as for me, I felt I could dance after 24 hours after surgery. Take everything easy, even when you think you may be feeling great.

My mother -in-law gave me the BEST stair advice! I have about 28 stairs (to top floor) and had a TAH with large incision... got out of hospital after 2 days so fretted about this... (surgeon said it would be fine)

Anyways, MIL recommended walking up the stairs BACKWARDS which is brilliant as it doesnt pull on the stomach. My husband gave me extra support from the front (I leaned on his arms a bit only because I was nervous). It worked like a charm! (go slowly though to avoid slipping)

Try it out before you go in.
