Don't understand?!?!

I guess I haven't gotten all the details from my Dr.s yet. I have 2 doing surgery. But I thought when everything was yanked out, there was no more bleeding. My gyn told me the week before you have surgery, you have the "revenge of the period!", but its done after surgery. Have I misunderstood something? My urologist gave me pamplets that said after the cectocele, your vagina gets packed. I am assuming its like a tampax, just not up as far. No one has said how the rectocele is done but my gyn does that. My understanding is that there will be a little balloon at the end of my vagina, (everything else is coming out) and the tendons where the uterus was attached will be stitched together. So where are you bleeding from?

I am suppose to receive a package of info. from both Dr.s, but as of right now I have nothing but the date and time of surgery. My surgery is at 6:00AM, I have to be there by 4:00AM. The only good thing is my kids will all be in bed asleep at that hour, and since I know I won't be able to sleep that night, maybe when its done I'll sleep through the worst of it.

Confused,
Denise

Don't understand?!?!

Hi Denise,

You may bleed a little from the internal stitches. I also had a rectocele and a cystocele. The packing consists of what seems like miles and miles of gauze. You will feel a little bit full until it's removed. I thought it would hurt, but it didn't, really. It just seems to take forever for the nurse to pull it all back out. I bled for just a few days, and it was a very light discharge, not heavy, but enough that I needed some light pads.

I'm not sure about the balloon - in my case, as far as I understood it, the doctor formed a "cuff" and the ligaments were attached to the cuff. (Picture a toilet paper empty cardboard roll, folded over a little at one end). Your doctor may be using another method.

You will have an episiotomy-like cut for the rectocele repair, and I want to suggest that you buy a "donut" pillow and have it with you to sit on in the car on the way home and for several weeks after. You will be sore for awhile. I didn't have my donut until two days after I came home, and I really could have used it earlier.

I hope this information helps some.

Don't understand?!?!

Hi, Denise! Maybe your dr meant you were going to have revenge against your periods--permanently! Most of us only had spotting or very light bleeding after a hyst. If it is heavy or very bright red, something is wrong and you would need to be checked by a dr right away. It's wonderful not having any more bleeding! s and best wishes!

Don't understand?!?!

I guess I should explaine. Revenge of the period, is a period that my Dr. claims is worse then normal. She said most women end up with it. Like a last horahh, a period to make you glad your getting rid of it. Misery one last time. Almost like your period knows this is it.

Hope this clarifies.

Don't understand?!?!

My rectocele repair did not require a do-nut pillow. All the stitches were inside. Ask your DR if they think you will want a donut pillow. For a while I just used a regular bed pillow ( in addition) to soften my hard dining chairs a bit more than the chair pads do alone.
