Help night sweats!!!

I am 6 days post op and the last two nights have been horrible. I am getting night sweats. I go to bed cold wake up several times a night sweating then get cold again. My clothes are even wet from so much sweat? What's a sister to do?

I had a TAH/RSO. Left left ovary and tube.

Help night sweats!!!

I am on HRT since my surgery five weeks ago. I feel great except for the night sweats. Some nights I just take off my clothes because they are wet from sweat. The doctor is going to talk to me about changing my HRT at my visit Friday.

I had both ovaries removed but sometime I think even if you have an ovary it can go into shock after surgery and not work correctly for while.

I sure hope your sweats go away soon. GOOD LUCK

Help night sweats!!!

Hi poohbear;

What you are experiencing is a part of menopause. Sometimes the ovary('s) take time to "wake up" after a hyst.

Have you mentioned this to your doctor? He/she could give you something to help ease the symptoms until the ovary wakes up.

I hope things get better for you!

Help night sweats!!!

Poohbear, I have the same thing. The night sweats come all night long. I have learned to take off my clothes and sleep in the buff. Has helped some. Last night I even thought about turning on the ceiling fan. Knew my husband, would think I was crazy!!!! It was only 32 outside.

Help night sweats!!!

Being 53 yo...I have had hot flashes and night sweats for about 8 years. Long before this hyster...[on 3/22/05]...There were times I thought that I would bursts into flames!

My OBGYN told me to be prepared for night sweats...I just laughed at him...been there, done that!

Before surgery, and now...I chose to NOT take any HRT.
But my GP/Family Dr. gave me CLONIDINE HCI - 0.1mg.

This drug is for high blood pressure, which I do NOT have...but they have found it great for controlling the dreaded "Hot Flash".

I swear to you, on my stitches....this stuff works. Talk to your DR. about it.

Help night sweats!!!

I've had the sweats every night since my last night in the castle (day 3 post-op)... I get them about every 2-3 hours throughout the night... worried that my sleep is going to be too disrupted, especially when I start back to work. For some reason, i get very few hot flashes during the day, and (thank the Good Lord) have had otherwise mild menopause symptoms (mostly emotional outbursts...)
Doc doesn't want me on HRT, and prescribed Effexor, which I have yet to take - not thrilled about being on an anti depressant that might have problems of its own...
Anway, I tried sleeping in the buff last night at the suggestion of the sisters - it didn't prevent the sweats, and even though I did wake up with them three times last night, it seemed easier to recover and get back to sleep... tossed off the blanket until all the perspiration evaporated off (which was pretty fast... our skin temp when this happens must really be elevated!) I know my pillow at the back of my neck is SO HOT when I wake up with the sweats.. Anyway, once I started feeling the obligatory CHILLS coming on.... BRRRR ... pulled the sheets back up and fell back to sleep...(until the next bout of sweats) Just thought I'd share...

Help night sweats!!!

Well... I've been in denial about the night sweats... I guess I can't ignore them, huh?

I'm 8 days post-op, having lost just one ovary, and the last 2 nights have awakened in the middle of the night soaked in sweat. No daytime symptoms, and no crying jags or roller coaster emotions (yay!) so maybe the one remaining ovary just needs to wake up and get to work!

I'm keeping track for my doc just in case this continues...

May try sleeping in the buff!

Help night sweats!!!

I had my TAH last Jan and had my tubes and ovaries removed 10 weeks ago. I had really bad hot flashes day and night. My MD put me on 1mg of estradiol. It has helped alot with the hot flashes, but I still do get hot flashes at night. Even though it is not as bad, it still is frustrating to get hot, then cold, then hot, then cold!!
I found that getting a bed sheet and staying on top of my comforter has helped some. I also sleep in a loose cotton sleeveless shirt . I have not found anything that takes the hot flashes away, but being as comfortalbe as I can helps some. Good Luck!
