Resistance lower after hysterectomy???
I am about 2 1/2 months post op and at 8 weeks out I went out in public to my two sons' sports games and one competition where I was surrounded by hundreds of people. At the same time I started back full time at my teaching job. A couple days after the big sports day, I came down with a nasty virus that kicked my behind for several days. Once I started feeling better, I had one good day, then another 3-sporting events day again and I was around hundreds of people. The day after I got a cold. My question is if our resistance is down from surgery and if it takes a long time for it to improve? I haven't felt good since before my surgery and it's getting real old.

Re: Resistance lower???
Hello Jjii
I know it has to be frustrating as you are trying to jump back into daily activities along with sporting events. The thing to remember is that even with 8 weeks behind you, there is still a lot more healing to do from within. The first phase of recovery can take those 6 to even 8 weeks. However, full recovery from surgery can take an additional 5 or so months and up to a year for some women.
Surgery can add stress to the body along with challenging or even compromising your immune system. Gradually build your system back up with those naps that you still might need along with some walking and a healthy diet. Perhaps even try taking some probiotics. Overall, it is going to take time in order for your body internally to feel even close to normal.
Put a call into your doctor for peace of mind also.

Hello,
I just had my hysterectomy last week so I can't answer in regards to that surgery but 3 years ago after I had my gallbladder removed, I kept getting sinus infections. 5 in 12 months. I had never had them before. The doctor said it was due to the immune system being low. My surgery was in Septembe, right before cold and flu season, but I did struggle with immune issues for a while. So yes, in my experience there is issues with immune system and surgery. Take extra precautions. Good luck!

Resistance lower after hysterectomy???
I've seen several cases of colds and other illnesses in this forum. What commonly happens is that antibiotics used in the surgery indiscriminately kill off the good bacteria inside your intestinal tract, which accounts for 70% of your immune stystem. In addition to what your doctor prescribes, I would recommend a probiotic supplement, or regular servings of live culture yogurt, to restore this good bacteria. Sending gentle hugs, and best wishes for a speedy recovery from your illness, and for your continued post-op recovery!

Re: Resistance lower after hysterectomy???
I caught a cold 10 days after and it took 3 weeks to go away! I didn't sick after that. I guess my immune system had to kick it up a notch and helped me stay well..
