Nervous Pre-Op princess

Hi there

I had the very same thing - I have no kids I'm now 39 - it was a deliberate choice - I had a TAH 1 year and 1 day ago as a result of a fibroid - I left my fibroid grow for a good while until it got unbearable and then surgery was the only option - but the day I was told I was having the hysterectomy I was very upset - and I realise now that it was the fact that it was out of my control and the desicion was made for me - where I was so used to making all the desicions! I kept my ovaries so no menopause yet - and here I am a year on, delighted that I have no more bleeding, no more birth control to take, etc.

Everything will be fine!

Donna,

I will be thinking of you on 10/13 for 2 reasons: 1. because your surgery is the day before mine and 2. my name is Donn also.

I was born in 1960 - two months after one of the most powerful hurricanes to sweep across Caribbean for which I was named (Hurricane Donna).

I intend to harnass all the strength you ladies are giving me and know that by the time my surgery date arrives (10/14), I will be strong and prepared.

Over the last couple of days, I have figured out that I am scared about whether my doctor will determined if there is any cancer present. She seems to be worried because she "doesn't" know what the "complex mass" is or why my tubes are filled (or with what) and dilated.

I think figuring out why I feel the way I do helps in the acceptance.

I gotta tell you, the whole cancer possibility is the thing that has had me most frightened. My doc doesn't think I have cancer, but doctors don't have crystal balls. And also, doctors don't know the reason behind everything that happens to your body. Just because she doesn't know what is making your tubes full doesn't mean it is cancer. Actually, I would have thought that cancer follows a more recognizable pattern. It's usually the benign stuff that gets weird, you know? The funky growths, the mysterious fluid...if a doctor doesn't recognize it, then it's probably just some strange benign thang goin' on! LOL!

I'm sure the fact that you had surgery only a couple of months ago makes you feel really mad that you have to go through it all again. I'd frankly be furious with the feeling that my life was spinning out of my control. I get it!

Thank you!

I am so glad to have this outlet. The encouragement I've been getting substantiates my feeling but as each day passes, I lose sleep. I just cannot believe I'm having the reaction that I am.

I've definitely come to the conclusion that it is the unknown that is bothering me so much. And, my emotions are in chaos. I am eating the worst things that taste so good. I haven't even touched on worrying about after the surgery. It's all about the pre-op time frame.

Thanks for "getting it".

artdon2001,

I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as we journey to the castle next week. We can do this together. The unknown is the scary part, I know. I'm especially praying for you that they don't find any trace of cancer. I'm also praying for our doctors - that God will guide their hands.
Take care of yourself! Remember to PAMPER THE PRINCESS and try not to do too much before Tuesday!

Dear Pre Op Princess. Eat & do whatever makes you feel good & calms you. You are the most important member of your team. I also tried to focus on a happy event that would take place after the surgery, that gave me something to focus on that was not the surgery & holding that thought made me realize that I would come through the surgery OK. I had a robotic TAH on 9/24. today I drove to the bank & stopped at Starbucks for a latte. So things will get better!

Nervous pre-op

Thank you for the encouragement. I actually have my 48th birthday to look forward to. So, hopefully, I'll be up and around by then - - that'll be 3 wks. post op. It's encouraging to know that you're already driving.

I wish you a continued speedy recovery.

I'm going through something similar myself. I have no idea why I'm having all of these sad feelings (I've been begging my doctor for a hysterectomy for a couple of years now and he finally agreed). I've accepted the decision that children are not going to be part of my life, but who knows... maybe I am subconsciencely mourning "what could have been" because I don't think about it until I go to sleep and these thoughts come to me in my dreams (wish you could control your dreams) then I'll wake up crying and depressed and it usually takes me a few hours before I separate fiction from relality and feel better, then the cycle starts all over again.

My surgery is in two weeks and I've spent pretty much the past two days crying my eyes out (I'm not a cryer either). Today I feel fine (emotionally) physically my body is screaming that this surgery can't be over with quick enough.

I thought I was losing my mind, (I just posted a similar thread in this forum) but after reading your post and some of the responses, maybe this is a normal reaction???? (I hope)
