Yes, it is weak and that is why my new script is now apparently being compounded for 80% estriol and 20% estradiol in a cream base.........Apparently the starting dose..........I hope this takes care of it. I have a sort of tender area on the wall that needs to be especially treated and the last dose did not totally take care of it. I also think I need daily dosing........perhaps just half gram but two times weekly does not seem to do it for me.
I had a complete hysterectomy not for just fibroids, but for severe hyperplasia (I had had, unknown to me, FOUR irregular paps that NOBODY told me about..........my regular gyn told me that in time it would all straighten out because I would be in menopause).........the surgeon who finally diagnosed the need, bless his heart, said that it was just a matter of time before it would be inoperable. He said I would never have reached menopause. Given that scenario, I suppose compared to the alternative this is not so bad................

Chronic UTIs and estrogen amount

While estriol is a weaker estrogen than estradiol, it is often very effective for vaginal dryness. It also has the advantage that it does not have the effect of encouraging endometrial proliferation the way estradiol can, which is a huge plus for women who have had cancer or endo. Here's a link to an article with more information about estriol:

http://www.womenshealth.com/eNL/enl114.html

My compounded estriol cream is 1% (1 mg estriol per gram of cream). I use about 1/2 gram or so, 3 times a week at bedtime. That's in addition to systemic HRT... if I were on no systemic HRT I'd use the cream every night.

If using the estriol cream more often doesn't take care of the problem, you might consider trying a tube of Premarin cream (the most effective of all) as a temporary measure to encourage quicker healing, and then switching back to the estriol because it's safer imho in the long run.

-Linda

YES concur with nightly use because am not on systemic at all due to a further complication.......I had my pituitary removed, Cushings tumor, last year and must be now on growth hormone and it has to compete with estrogen in liver break down making it hard to calibrate.....*****sigh****
My doctor thought dosing with cream would have to be the best way to go with my estrogen needs being what they are.......I am unable to use Premarin at all...even cream as there are issues of intense sensitivity.......they had to scramble to find even the base they are using now to keep this from happening...........there was burning on application that never let up.....it was in just initial sensitivity.........it made matters worse........I am hopeful with the new Rx and nightly application we can finally reach some way of combating this problem that has plagued me now for a solid year......

Chronic UTIs and estrogen amount

DustyOR,

Initially, I took four capsules a day for about a week. Then I took two capsules daily for another week. That was it. Of course, I drunk a lot of water during this period. I was having UTIs (sometimes with bloody urine) every month. Thank God, I haven't had any since. Estrogen will help eliminate this problem.

Jeannie, where do you find them in capsule form? I would like to think I could carry them if I was out......all I have is a cannister of the powder.........
It sounds like you have it whipped now.........I been there done that with real bloody UTIs and it is no fun and takes days to recover even after the antibiotics are applied.....
