Hair loss?

This is my 8th week post op, and I'm losing a lot of my hair when I shampoo it. I had my thyroids checked and everything there is good. Is anyone else having this problem and if yes, what to do for this.

Re: Hair loss?

Somewhere I read that it was normal to loose a bunch of hair after any major surgery. I also know a friend who continued to loose hair and it seemed to be hormone related. Hope that helps some.

Re: Hair loss?

I have been loosing hair since having my 3 year old. I do think its hormone related. If it gets any worse I may end up bald.

Re: Hair loss?

I'm losing a freaking TON of hair, I'm seriously worried about going bald. My dr said it was hormonal and due to the major surgery. She checked my thyroid and checked for autoimmune diseases which were all fine. She has me taking a super complex B vitamin for it.

When it was first prescribed I was also taking Premarin vaginally for a cuff infection. I thought the vitamin was working awesome til I stopped the Premarin, hair is going again. It's definitely hormonal for me! She doesn't want me on HRT so I don't know what I'm going to do if it keeps up! I am still taking the vitamin though. It does help a little.

Re: Hair loss?

Yep, I've always lost a decent amount of hair, but I have generally thick curly curly hair, but since surgery almost 15 weeks ago it comes out in clumps when I'm brushing. I see my ONC again December 3rd and I'm going to mention it to her to see if there's anything I can take to at least slow it down.

Re: Hair loss?

Had same problem. Added biotin supplement daily and switched to sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and seems to have helped alot!

Re: Hair loss?

I was told it was due to low iron.. So I am taking iron and biotin which is suppose to help with the losing of the hair... Buuut so far my hair is still falling out!

Re: Hair loss?

Ditto to all... I had to cut about 3 inches off the 1st week my hair was so dried after surgery looked horrible, then it started coming out in clumps... slowed down recently but still losing more than I want! I'm going to have my GYN or Primary take some tests to see how things are working for me. I only have partial thyroid that is probably exhausted from all this! GYN said I maybe in surgical menopause. ergh... wake up little guys, I need you!
