help-hot flash/night sweats question

I had TAH/BSO and had what I considered to be hot flashes even before the surgery. But now when I have an episode (both day and night) I have a layer of sweat on my forhead, beads on my upper lip, just wet all over. My daughter commented when I was talking with her "mom, your neck and your ears are red" and when I touched my ears they were hot to the touch, I was having a flash at that time. Is this normal? I am not doing HRT because of other issues. Any thoughts?

yep, thats a normal hot flash. My sister used to keep a fan on her all the time for them. Sorry to hear you are having a rough time with them.

help-hot flash/night sweats question

It's always rougher in the winter - all those layers of clothes. I keep 2 nightgowns at the foot of my bed and usually change off at least once a night. I find a cold wet cloth on the back of my neck really cools me off quickly. And if I wear anything close to the back of my neck, I start flashing quickly. JUST TELL YOURSELF - THEY AREN'T HOT FLASHES - THEY ARE POWERSURGES! Be grateful. Think how much money you are saving on heating bills! l (G)

Thank you both for your reply. In the middle of the night when you are awake your mind starts thinking the most incredible thoughts, like maybe I have an internal infection that is raging out of control and my family will find me dead (and naked) in the morning. Relief to know it is my new normal.

help-hot flash/night sweats question

twoyears,

There are alternatives to hrt. There is a forum on this site.
No Hormone Oasis It is a forum for ladies that have chosen not to take hrt or can't.

I have learned alot there. I use natural progesterone cream, natural estrogen creme, vitamins and herbs.

One thing I recommend for night sweats is the chillow. It is great. I've been using it since the second week after my tah/bso.

In the hormone jungle tab there is a hot flash cocktail

Hot Flash Cocktail
400 IU vitamin e (mixed d-tocopherols)
500-600 mg calcium citrate with 400 IU vitamin d
200 mg magnesium citrate
500 mg vitamin c with bioflavonoids
Omega-3 fatty acids (equivalent of 360 mg DHA & 240 mg EPA)

It does take some time to find what works best for you.

I hope you can find the balance in there it is some trial and error.
