5 days post hysterectomy: Weight gain

Hello, new here I sm sure this topic has been disused before but I couldn't find exactly what I needed. I had a single site robotic assist hysterectomy on Tuesday Dec 2. The day of surgery my weight was 147, today I am 154! 😳 what the heck? I haven't eaten that much! Actually been eating lite! What gives? Help,

Re: Weights gain

Mine was the same day - after the BM, I actually feel thinner. Have you had a BM yet? Could it just be poop backed up? I feel like my belly shrunk after the BM. I don't have a scale at home so I can't be sure. I'm sure it will resolve!

Re: Weights gain

It not weight gain, it fluid retention from the surgery. It will level out

Re: Weights gain

What GPMS said. Keep going for short, frequent walks. This will help your body process the excess fluid.

I agree with the others, this is just water retention from the surgery.

Now I will say this, definitely keep on eye on the foods you eat. I was home for 8 weeks, I pretty much stayed on the couch the whole time. I didn't do much of anything, no exercise and ate whatever I wanted.

Before surgery I could eat anything and not gain a pound. My start weight before surgery was 113, now I am 120.

I just started back to work last week, so I'm hoping once I'm back into the swing of things the extra pounds will come off. I haven't hit the gym yet as I don't have the energy. It's the night eating that kills me lol.

I'm not saying this is going to happen to you, but it did happen to me. I don't know if it's the changes in my hormones, or just the fact that I had major surgery and I still get swelly belly.

Re: Weights gain

Thanks girls! I was hoping it was swelling and retention, I guess I'm just to anxious

I think I gained 7 lbs the first week. Then by the end of the second week I started leaking fluid from my vagina, which the doctor said was fluid like when we get a scrap and clearish fluid wells up on it (people here said it is lymph fluid). Only for me it was inside and finding its way out through the stitches of the vaginal cuff. I wound up leaking a LOT and dropped 4 or 5 lbs in several days.
I was back to my starting weight by the end of a month.

Re: Weights gain

I had the same experience. I would have to go back and see what I posted here to remember the exact amount my weight went up, but I think it was like 12 pounds! I am just shy of three weeks post-op, and it is long gone. Hang in there.

Re: 5 days post hysterectomy: Weight gain

It's water retention. My doctor removed probably 10lb fibroids so I was expecting to be much lighter. To my big disappointment when I finally weighted myself on day 4 when I got home, I actually gained a few pounds.. today is day 7 post op, as I have regular BM and the fluid leaving my body, I did lose 10lbs so far. Thank god.
