Flu shot before sx?
I just wanted to know if any of you have had a flu shot before sx. I am going to the castle Nov. 12th and I don't want to risk getting sick before the date. I have a message in to my doctor but I also want opinions from others. Thanks!!!

Flu shot before surgery?
I think thats a really good idea ... getting any kind of flu even in recovery can hurt ... all that coughing etc.,
Speak to your DR and if he thinks its OK go ahead ... keep us posted !

Flu shot before surgery?
Let me know what you hear. I have been wondering if it would be wise to get one as well. My surgery is 2 weeks from today....do you go for it so that you're covered while at the castle???? and risk getting sick before? I'd be very interested in what you find out. Thanks!

Flu shot before surgery?
Hi there -- my surgery is scheduled for October 20th, and I got a flu shot on October 3rd. My doctor said that as long as it's two weeks or more before surgery, it's fine -- the reason for two weeks is that in the event there was a reaction, that I would be over it by surgery time. All went well, and I've had no problems -- and I feel better knowing that I'm innoculated against flu in the event there's a flu bug floating around the hospital (and since a hospital is for sick people, there probably will be!)

Answer to flu shot question
I did talk to my doctor and was told that a flu shot is O.K. to get before sx but it has to be done no less than 2 weeks before sx. I was wanting to know because my mom got the flu 5 days after her TAH and was miserable for almost a month. She also had her surgery in Nov and I don't want to take the chance of getting any nasty bugs at that time.
I also got my pre-op date! Nov. 6th. The doctors office has also taken care of all the insurance crap and also pre-registered me at the hospital. All I need to do is sign papers, get bloodwork and show up for sx! Yippee!
Thanks for all your input!

Flu shot before surgery?
Hey all,
Yes a flu shot is fine as long as it's two weeks or more before your surgery.
Like any vaccine it lowers your immune system for a bit so it's good to put it off if you can ... unless your prone to getting the flu
Hope this helps,
Carly

Flu shot before surgery?
Carlykins,
You are right. I meant to put more than 2 weeks before. Sorry to all! I don't want to mislead anyone! Thanks for the correction!
