Saw Dr Not Impressed!
On monday I had an appt. to see a gyn that visits in our community every 2 weeks for about 4 hours. To say the least I was not impressed with her. I told her what was going on and how long I had suffered with the pain and she started talking about this treatment and that treatment and doing a d & c to see if that would help the pain any. I told her that I really did not want to be used as a guinea pig. She kept saying well you have lived with it all these years and why not try some other options before having a hyst. She kept telling me what all the surgery entailed and the risk and talking to me like I was stupid. She would not give me time to explain that I did not suffer with this pain, which gets worse all the time, all these years because I wanted to. I had no other choice I was taking care of my elderly grandmother. I had to make sure she got to the store, Drs and so on. I did not have time to take weeks off for my own health. My grandmother passed away Feb. last year and took me most of the summer and early fall to clear out the stuff out of her house and get that business taking care of. So now I am trying to get things done for myself. My 2 children are grown. My youngest, a son, will soon be 18. I now feel like I can take the time for my own health. I had my regular Dr. to refer me to another gyn. They suggested a dr about 25 miles from me and it is the same place that I went when I was pregnant with my son. I should have had them do that to start with. I get a medical card in the winter months because my husband usually isn't working in the winter months since he works construction. I don't have the privilege of taking my time on this. If I don't have it done soon my card will run out and then I will have to wait until next winter. There is a possibility that my husband will have a different job next winter and I won't be eligible for the medical card. I was supposed to go yesterday for check on incision for removal of breast lump on 1-31 but I cancelled just didn't feel like dealing with another dr. Sorry this is so long but just had to vent.

((( Vicki )))
Oh sweetie, it does sound like you've had your share of problems. Bless you for caring for your grandmother.
I don't think that the dr was trying to use you as a guinea pig. I think that she's being careful with you. A hyst is such a major surgery - removing body parts. I think that it should be decided on after all other options are considered. Depending on what is causing your pain, something less drastic might give you the relief that you need. Please take the time to research all your options and with your dr, choose what will help you most.
Now, also, PLEASE have that breast lump cared for. That's something that is so very important. It may be fairly minor - fibroid cysts like I had or it could be a lot more serious. You won't know unless you have it checked.
Best wishes. Please keep us updated.

Saw Dr Not Impressed!
Hi Jeanus,
In 1994 I was diagnosed with cervical displaysia. It was the stage just below being full blown cervical cancer. At that time they discussed a hysterectomy but as I said before I just couldn't do it because of taking care of my grandmother. I was all for it except for that. They decided to freeze it off which got rid of that. I still have the HPV virus that caused it all to start with. They pain was bad even then. Now it has got unbearable. Last month I kept track of the pain meds I took when I started my period and I took 18, 220mg of naproxen sodiums in 23 hours. I have a constant ache around my ovaries and uterus all the time but when I start my period the pain is so bad that I feel like ripping my insides out myself. They did find fibroids in my uterus and one in my left ovary. Or what they said they thought were fibroids. This dr ask me 2 or 3 times that if I was in so much pain why hadn't I had it taken care of before now. If I could have I would have. I have tried pain killers such as darvocet and hydrocodone and they don't touch it. They just make me feel more crappy then I already feel. It is worse then giving birth every month. I am just so tired of the pain. I have fibromyalgia and I don't need anything else to go along with that so now I am trying to take care of the things that I can. I can't be put on any meds that I have to take all the time because when my medical card is gone I won't be able to afford the meds. There is no place around here that you can get meds based on income. My husband only makes 7 dollars an hour when he is working. We don't own a car so I have to borrow a car from my inlaws everytime I go somewhere. Here I am just running off at the mouth again. But the only sister I have lives in Louisiana and there is no one else for me to talk to right now. Thanks for listening.

Vicki,
Please don't give up on the doctors. You need to get all these issue resolved and you are the only one who can orchestrate that. Hang in there , make your appointments and get the medical care you need.
Your needs have been on hold for far too long now and it is time to put yourself first!!!
Let us know how you are doing.

I have never been one to go to a dr a lot unless I just couldn't stand the pain any longer. Which I can't anymore. I guess maybe I should have run to one every month then maybe now they would take me seriously when I tell them how bad the pain is.

Saw Dr Not Impressed!
Biggest fault we have, is that we put others first. I put off going to a doctor for years since I needed to take care of my DH and then my mom got sick.
take heart and take care of yourself. Find a doc that cares.
