squishy pain-hernia (TAH)?

This board moves pretty fast, so I apologize if this type of question has been asked recently. I am 5 weeks post-op from TAH. last weekend I sat up from laying down in bed and felt something sharp in my lower left abdomin. since then when i move a certain way, or try to cross my left leg, it feels like i'm squishing something in my lower left and there is a sharp pain that just throbs after. pain killers dull it for the moment, but then it comes back. i have an apt tomorrow with my dr. to get it checked out. but i guess my question is...are hernias common after TAH? i've read where more often they occur with laps or something of that nature. dr used my c-section incision to do my TAH. thanks so much for this site, i really love all the information and the support!!!

Re: squishy pain-hernia (TAH)?

I would definately have the doctor check it out. I had TAH in November of last year with several complications. My incision is from navel to bikini line. I felt a "knot" at the end of my incision near bikini line so not thinking to much of it (just thought maybe scar tissue), I called my surgeon. He wanted to check it out and saw me the same day. My face dropped when after the exam he told me I have a hernia that will require an open surgery to repair. I see him again in August to set up the surgery. I am still in shock that I thought it was something simple as scar tissue and now have to be reopened again. This will be my 4th surgery in the same spot. My muscles will never recover.

Re: squishy pain-hernia (TAH)?

oh wow, you sure have been through the wringer! I hope this is the final time you have to go through surgery. did u have to do a ct scan? I can't feel an external knot but then again I'm still swollen and puffy from the TAH plus I have a little bit of "extra padding" my dr said the TAH was the least risky with the least side effects but knowing my luck I'll develop something anyway lol. thanks for your reply and hope everything goes well in August!!

Re: squishy pain-hernia (TAH)?

I didn't have a scan. He just did the normal physical exam with the pushing, pressing, coughing. I actually felt him push it back in. I also have extra padding but because it is at the end of my incision (and upward) it has pushed my scar out. My incision was put back together so tightly that it was actually sunk in about an inch. Now most of the scar is buldging out a bit.
