blood in stool--advice?

I am six months post op. I had my uterus and ovaries removed along with vaginal vault suspension. Since my surgery I have had occasional but severe bouts of constipation. An issue I have never had to deal with. I sometimes experieince a sharp pain/pulling feeling on the lower right side (just where my leg meets my belly). This pain was first evident the day following my surgery. It is not constant and is sometimes accompanied by a BM, sometimes not. Today I noticed a small amount of bright red blood in my stool (we can rule out hemis). Of course, I will be contacting my doctor (at 50 probably time for colonoscopy) but in the meantime...any input is welcome.

Re: blood in stool--advice?

I would let my doctor know. You can get hemoroids from straining, bleeding , or small tears.

Hope it is nothing to worry about. You might try more fiber and water in your diet to avoid constipation.

Re: blood in stool--advice?

Is the blood in the stool, or coming out with the stool? If it is not in it, perhaps you have a fissure? I would bring up the pulling sensation with your doctor when you see them. Hope you find some answers soon.
