Back ache ~ anyone else?

Hi,

I just signed up today for the first time.

I am from Kerala in India, but live in Oman. Had laparoscopy (total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy - in other words, uterus, ovaries and cervix gone) in Cochin on 2nd of Oct. Feeling ok, but a bit tired on some days. Dr has put me on HRT for 6 months and calcium indefinitely.

I get back ache on and off after the op. Not sure if it is due to the surgery or due to wear and tear to L5 of the spine, detected by ortho recently. Anybody else out there suffering from back ache after the op?

Thanks.

Re: Back ache ~ anyone else?

I know how you feel. I had TAH/BSO 10/9/09 and my lower back really hurts at times. I too wonder if this is just due to the surgury and is apart of the healing process.

Re: Back ache ~ anyone else?

I had my TAH/BSO on 10/22. I also have back pain (i have never had back pain before). I attribute mine to compensating for my ab muscles by straining on my back and using my back muscles more. I also read on my HRT patch that one of the side effects is back pain, so I''m really sure which is the cause, but, I'm dealing with it also.

Re: Back ache ~ anyone else?

My back ache is my biggest complaint. It is worse when I am sitting or standing for too long. My spine is fine, it just has to do with healing I think. I believe I recall that someone on the site mentiond the doctors cut certain ligaments to remove the unterus and one is a ligament holding it to your back. If that is true, perhaps that explains the back pain. Heating pad and lying down help though.

best wishes.

Re: Back ache ~ anyone else?

Hi,

Thank you for responding. I will not run to the ortho for help for a while at least. I had gone to him a month before hysterectomy with severe leg pain and was told that in some cases, fibroids can cause such symptoms.

My laparoscopic surgeon is far away in India..... I returned to Oman in the Middle East (where I presently reside) last week, barely 3 weeks after the surgery because I was feeling ok. Relieved to hear back ache is common for others too. Wonder how long it will continue. My daughter is getting married in 2 months time and hope I will be back to normal before that.

Re: Back ache ~ anyone else?

I find that the backache is the worst thing I have to contend with. Thought it was the compensation, interesting to hear that it may be due to a cut during surgery. Heat pads, definately, also sitting on the bed with pillows under the knees took some of the pressure off.

I also developed back ache after the surgery, right where they did my epidural. I suffer with arthritis and the anesthesiologist warned me the epidural could cause inflammation (even without arthritis) and it looks like thats what happened.

Did any of you get an epidural?

I also had terrible low back pain after surgery for about two weeks. Laying in a recliner and sleeping in bed with a pillow under my knees really has helped.
