interesting new info!

Hi everyone -
Just like to let you know about a site I went to by a woman dr. and she writes a very good paper on hysterectomy and oophoectomy. Her name is Kate O'Hanlan and you may have seen it with any surfing you've done but if not, go to:

www.ohanlan.com/total_laparo.htm

I found it as I was reading up on adenomyosis. After my surgery, my dr. told me that my uterus had anenomyosis in the lining which is a type of endometriosis, contained in the uterine lining. This also explained the heavy periods I used to have. Also, adenomyosis is not usually diagnosed until a hysterectomy is done, as it does not always show up as on an ultrasound. In fact, my dr. had done a D&C several years ago when my periods were ending and I was having very heavy bleeding. Prior to my surgery, I wrestled with the decision of whether to have my ovaries out or not, but upon finding that the adenomyosis was in the uterus, I am now glad that the ovaries were taken, even though with the path report the ovaries showed to be normal. This is also a good sign as it shows that the endometriosis did not spread to the ovaries. I have also read where that happens and can later develop into tumors. So there are reasons to trust our doctors!! I'm glad now that I listened to his judgement. I had gone for a second opinion prior to surgery, which didn't vary, but returned to my regular m.d. as I felt he was more familiar with me and I'm glad that I trusted him. Keep reading and researching but also listen to the wisdom of your doc.

Many blessings,
Cubby
