sharp knife-stabbing pain

I'm on my second day and just got home. The spot where my ovary was removed (it had a large cyst) causes a very sharp pain when I stand up and especially when getting back in bed. Takes my breath away. Percocet and dilaudud don't take it away. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: sharp knife-stabbing pain

Ask dr. Be very careful moving around - do it slowly. You have stitches inside and you were also cut.

Re: sharp knife-stabbing pain

I'm 2 1/2 days out of surgery (Wed, 3/20 @ 10am surgery). I have had stabbing pains in left side (same side where my laparascopic incisions are). Pains are NOT coming from incisions. I was prescribed Lorcet 5/500. I read some EXCELLENT advice in a post here about getting up and down. I've pulled/strained every muscle in my stomach and arms getting up and down, tensing up too much. Try this: before trying to sit/stand, inhale as deep as you can. As you start the movement to sit, exhale at the same time. Same thing with beginning to stand up. When trying to get out of bed, instead of straining, I roll onto my side, push up on one elbow, I make sure my feet are either touching the floor, or as close as I can get (hard to do with king size bed). I inhale as deep as I can, then as I push up off my elbow, exhale. This has helped me a great deal. Hope it gets better for you. Hang in there!

Re: sharp knife-stabbing pain

Wow! Good advice. My bed is high. Ive been rolling over and sitting up like you explained but not the breathing. I'll do that. Thanks so much Foxlady.

You're very welcome, just hope it helps a small bit, since we can't reach each other for a hug

Re: sharp knife-stabbing pain

I had that same thing happening the first 3 weeks - when I talked to my Dr about it at my 4 week check up she said that was where all my stitches were. Just move slowly and take it really easy, you've got a lot of healing going on in there!

Re: sharp knife-stabbing pain

Thank you Duchess! I didn't realize there were stitches inside because they cauterize. I am a tiny bit better today. I'm mostly in bed with some short walks around several times a day.
