Oh my .. you gals are to funny...LOL... I thought I was the only one.... I have been on a soaping frenzy...getting things ready for my website.. I have been whipping up scented whipped shea... sugar scrubs.. etc... and getting down and dirty on the house... I have been on a throwing it away frenzy .. if I don't use it or need it... its getting bagged up and donated... I just have to do it when Hubby is not home.. he is a huge pack rat.. worse than me...

No one can take my place
My surgery is October 1st. I just found out a few days ago so I feel like I'm behind on nesting. My biggest problem is I think of things that I do for my family that they don't even realize. I told my teenage son..."did you know that toilets are not self-cleaning" If nothing else, not being able to do everything for my family for awhile will show them that I don't just sit around all day. I don't have my date yet either, but I have redecorated DS's room and cleaned out two major closets! Weird.

Too bad we couldn't bottle and channel this energy ; we could make a fortune! Or at least do something phenomenal with the amassed amount! Alas I have some toilets that need cleaning too.

cdanicat-
I hear you with feeling bad about spending time with the kids after the surgery. However, even though I haven't had the hyster yet, I have had major surgery before, and it's amazing the stuff you can do with your kids even days after the surgery...stock up on "their" videos, put a VCR in front of your bed, and watch Barney until you can't stand it anymore...keep a stack of coloring books and crayons next to your bed, preferably new ones in their choice of characters, and color on a bed tray. The other thing that I try to do is have a special treat for the kids when they come to see me at the hospital (or immediately after you come home if you choose not to have the kids at the hospital, certainly understandable, too!). It distracts them from the sights and smells and sounds of the hospital, and it gives them something to do to buy me some time!!!
But, I will agree with you, playing with our dear little ones is the best "nesting" we can do at this point. It will be a while before you're picking them up or getting down on the floor with them.
All the rest of you....I have the opposite problem. There is just SO much to get done that I just can't get the motivation to get ANY of it done!!! To look at my house, it is "clean", but to me, there are a lot of little things that I would feel better in recovery knowing they were done! My husband thinks I'm crazy, but his idea of a "clean" house is if the toys are pushed to the wall and there is a path from the front door to the kitchen! He will load the dishwasher (don't get me wrong, I'm very thankful for this), but he won't wash off the counters...stuff like that. I have to have that stuff done, or I won't be able to relax.
The one project I'm suddenly motivated to do it paint/decorate the bedroom. For now, it is kind of where we stick everything without a home (which is, I guess, why the rest of the house *looks* clean!!!), and I would like to spend some time in there to get away from the noise of the kids, so I think I'll buy some paint and get to it.
I love you all...keep posting! As the last week counts down, I'm starting to get pretty nervous..not about the surgery so much (okay, ask me about that in six days!!!), but the logistics of getting kids fed, clean, and to school are starting to get me down. There is just so much that needs to be done. I wish I could find the energy/motivation...I'm usually so type A!!!

Anyone doing the Nesting Thing before Surgery
I have ended up at the store every night this week. Last night it was slippers, laundry detergent and Gas-X (recommended by those on the Post-Op side). Today I realized that my son doesn't have enough fruit for lunches for the next two weeks so I have to run out again.
Last night I actually pulled the dryer completely out of the laundry closet, unhooked the hose and checked for clogs of lint. I started worrying about fire (better than worrying about surgery - I guess) After shopping tonight, it's time to wash the sheets, change the bed, wash the bathrobe, scrub the tub and toilet (again).... dear god I could go on.
One more day of work......and then.....

Anyone doing the Nesting Thing before Surgery
To HappyGo,
Regarding letting go of the housework, I'm realizing that my 14 year old son is only going to do so much this next few weeks in helping. I am trying to tell myself I will have to let go if the dog / cat / human hair starts piling up on the floor, and if he can cook a meal, rinse the dishes and put them in the dishwasher - then the counters, stove top and other stuff will just have to wait. If I find a white sock or bra is now blue - I will thank him GREATLY for all his help in doing laundry!!
(Who knows - he might start figuring out what all mom does around that house besides chauffer him from game to school to fun!!) -

Anyone doing the Nesting Thing before Surgery
Hey, lakecarlos, we have the same surgery date, and like you, we will not run out of toilet paper for months! What's with the desire to stock up on toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, napkins, etc.?? Yesterday, DH and I were walking out of Target's and saw another couple coming out with a basket filled with nothing but toilet paper. My husband looked over at their basket and annouced, "She must be getting ready for a hysterectomy, too!" Guess it must be catching!

I agree, this stuff can be catchy. I finally received my scheduled surgery date today, it's definitely Oct 8th. But the past few weeks, when I knew it was coming I have defintely started nesting. I rearrranged my large freezer and all my canned/dry goods. My husband says he can never find anything so.. I put up a list as to what can be found on each shelf Now he has no excuse as to where this is or that is!! I also have a list posted on my fridge with all the things I need to buy before surgery date.
I too have enough toilet paper/tissue and paper towels for years to come.
Also I had my DH paint my dining room ceiling and I started to paint the walls. I thought that I was going crazy, but after reading all your messages, I guess I'm pretty normal
