What did they do to me?
As some of you know if you read my castle story I had a horrible experience there. One of things I discovered when I got home was that my left breast was bruised- it is all purple! I have no idea how or why it happened. Did this happen to anyone else? I am not going to go back to the doctor who did the surgery for my post op check because he was so awful to me in the hospital. Instead I will see my local gyn. I am afraid to call the surgeon who did the hyst because of the things he said to me the day after the op. He had told me that I better stop whining ( I wasn't) and that it wasn't like I had major surgery! He did a TVH and removed both ovaries. He also said I should not be having pain- yea, right! And get this- he said I could go back to work in two weeks! I sell shoes and there is a lot of bending, carrying boxes, etc. I am on my feet for most of the day, except when I am fitting someone! Any way he also said if I had problems to call my local doctors. I feel like I have post traumatic stress syndrome. I talked to a psychotherapist who advised me to write a letter to this jerk of a doctor and send it. What do you think, I have been working on the letter, and it does feel good to get it out on paper, but I am not so sure about sending the thing. I am afraid of repercussions. I am so incredibly grateful for this site, it has kept me going through all this stuff. My hearfelt thanks to all my sisters! Judith

DO IT
Write everything down....dates, places, names. Get input from witnesses if you can. Then make sure a copy of everything goes to your state or local medical review board....to the board of the hospital where your surgery was done...and to the doctors who participated. You were treated badly and, if you do nothing, you would be allowing these jerks to do it to someone else. Who knows..taking some of you power back might be very good therapy after the damage they have done to you.

What did they do to me?
Squid --
I agree with Carolyn about writing everything down and sending it to the hospital, state licensing board, etc. Don't bother to send it to the doctor. He obviously doesn't care about his patients, and your letter will have no impact on him. Let the professionals deal with him!! The act of writing everything down is very cleansing, and it should help you regain your peace of mind.
Rest, rest, rest, water, water, water. Return to normal schedule only when you feel like you are strong and back to pre-surgery "spunk"!
Happy Healing.

I am so sorry for your experience. However, I think you should write that letter. Furthermore, you should send a letter of complaint to the state's licensing agency for doctors, along with a letter to the AMA. You should not be afraid to write him. He should be afraid. When you are feeling better, think about getting this off your chest in a meaningful and productive way. There is NO reason for such treatment. I wish I could write him. How dare he treat you like that.
I truly hope you feel better soon. Please rest and take care of yourself.

SUE SUE SUE
This is malpractice. I responded in a the previous one that you wrote about. Take pictures of all the bruises. Right down everything right now as it is fresh in your mind. How they didn't listen to you on where to start the IV. EVERYTHING. Please, if you don't this WILL happen to someone else and could be fatal. They are here to help us and care for us. Not abuse us. That is not what being a doctor is all about. Take action!! I wish you all the best and it saddens me to think that doctors can do this to you. God Bless and take care

What did they do to me?
Judith,
What a terrible thing to have happen to you! I would suggest you make an appointment with your local gyn right away and request a copy of your operative report from the hospital for your local doctor to review with you. Regardless of what else happens, you need to be under a doctor's care while you recover from your hyst.
I do hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly and you get plenty of rest before you do have to go back to work. You deserve it! You're right, selling shoes is not a good Princess activitiy!

What did they do to me?
Denise is right, Judith....the only way to know what was done in the OR is to obtain your surgery report. Your surgeon sounds like he needs a good education in proper bedside manner. (I don't think this constitutes malpractice.....you need to show that you have permanent injuries from the actions of your physician to pursue a malpractice case.)
Personally, I don't think that you'll feel up to going to work in two weeks. Ask for more time off....6-8 weeks is the usual recovery time allowed for hysterectomy. If your surgeon refuses to give you the time you need to recover, perhaps you could see your Primary Care Physician. In the meantime, continue to rest and take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon.

What did they do to me?
Dear Squid;
I'm in the same boat and I don't know exactly what to do. My MD informed my DH that the right stirrup collasped during surgery (TVH); and that my leg TOOK A VERY HARD HIT ONTO THE END OF THE TABLE! I have BLACK BRUISE that covers both inner thighs and the vaginal area and part of my butt. I'm having problems walking due to that..I see my MD again on Mon., and she said if I was still having pain; she would send me to Ortho for an evaluation
My problem is this: I am nurse and currently employed by these people!
What should I do? My DH took pictures of the bruising, just to be on the safe side. He also wants me to sue!! Don't know what to do! My MD said "the hospital was using faulty equiptment".
Any suggestions?????
Thanks!

What did they do to me?
Hi Squid,
I agree you need to know how the bruising on your breast happened. Find a gyn that can provide follow up. Unfortunately getting into a new one can get complicated .If not go to emergency room for any problems you may have. I had an abdominal . I sell shoes also. Our stock is out on the floors so it can either be self service or assistance can be provided. That does entail getting off the floor. My doc said I could work as tolerated. I took three weeks off and was fine. I did not touch stock for 11 weeks as far as lifting boxes and such. I wish you luck! Listen to your body is the statement my doc told me. If you incur pain due to an activity don't do it. If you are tired rest.
Happy Healing,
Adria

What did they do to me?
Thank you all for the suggestions. The doc is the head of the gyn dept at a well known major medical center, so that is why I am reluctant to make big stink out of this, I feel like it will go no where. I am also a patient of a urologist at this same hospital and dont want to cause too much trouble because I have something called a continent urostomy. I do not have a bladder- instead I have an internal pouch made out of my transverse colon and I have stoma- which is an opening on my lower abdomen which I catheterize to get the urine out. Because what I have is a rare thing, I still need to go to this hospital for continuing urologic care. I think what I would really like is an apology from this shmuck- how dare he treat me like that! My black and blue marks are fading so it's really too late to take pictures of them. It's the emotional scars that will take longer to heal. I sent a letter to the medical records dept. at the hosptial today requesting they send the op notes, discharge summary and pathology report to my local gyn.
Adria-we are an old fashioned shoe store- I actually sit on one of those little stools and put the shoes on people and tie them. I am also in charge of buying socks and displaying them- I love that part of the job!
Bobydood- I am so sorry to hear that you also were banged up! At least they told you what happened! I told the nurse at my internist's office and she wonders if they ended up using a paddle on me because my blood pressure bottomed out! I may never know what happened, as I doubt it would be in my surgical notes. I think that if you continue to have problems as a result of them dropping you then they should pay all the medical bills resulting from the injury. I would see if a deal could be made with the hospital.
Thank you Catherine, Denise,Red Candles, Eileen,Barbara & happycamper. The 's felt great! I am taking all I can get. I once read that everyone needs at least 4 's a day for good mental health!
