BM's don't have to always be scary!

Mine turned out to be just fine.

I had surgery on Wed, came home Friday, and had my first BM on Saturday, and another on Sunday.

Neither one hurt at all - just felt normal. I did spot just a little after the one today, but that's it.

I got a stool softener and a laxative (that they mixed with juice for me to drink) both Thur and Fri at the hospital. I had also been taking Phillips Stool Softener for a few days prior to surgery because I was on some pain meds that made me constipated.

Then, in the hospital, I ate cream of wheat twice. I had Raisin Bran cereal (4 boxes worth!) and a bran cereal (Uncle Sam) that I brought from home a couple times. It worked great because I wasn't overly hungry and didn't want anything heavy, so cereal was a perfect choice anyway.

Then, once I got home, I ate more bran cereal, and continued to take the stool softener.

I wasn't taking any chances and it seems to have worked out well!

BM's don't have to always be scary!

My cupboard looks like something from a retirement home. Stool softeners, metamucil, prunes, flaxseed meal, high fiber this, high fiber that.....uch. I was so constipated when I came home from surgery and have spent plenty of time processing all of these things. I do spot a bit when I "go" but I don't bear down. I relax myself with deep breathing or a few rounds of blackjack on my little battery-operated game.

BM's don't have to always be scary!

Ok, I take it back!! They are scary!! Not the BM's themselves...it doesn't hurt when it comes out, but I get these INSANE gas pains right before I need to go that cause me to literally double over in pain.

I can not wait till these gas pains have gone away. I'm not hurting from the surgery hardly at all, but I'm terrified to eat very much because of the gas pain. Taking Gas-X, stool softeners, peppermint tea and ginger ale. Hope it stops soon and my digestive system can go back to normal!

BM's don't have to always be scary!

I am at a day over 3 weeks since my TVH. The teribble gas pains stopped towards the end of the second week. BM's themselves didn't bother me to much but your right the gas is very painful. I able to get by with just prune juice and fiber cereal. My whole digestive tract is pretty much back now. So take heart it gets better
