Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

Do you ladies think today (day 5) is too early to go to Target for a few things with my hubby? anyone else go out at day 5? It's only a 5 minute drive... and we just need 2 or 3 things... I also have 2 other questions...
did anyone find a heating pad on your belly helpful? I was gonna try it.. just for gas pains - and these weird cramp pains.. ?

I have wood floors + 2 large doggies.. fur balls the size of small cats are forming in the corners... would a stick broom be ok to push around?? I have one of those little Bissell things... ?

Let the fur balls alone get someone else to clean up you must rest or you will do yourself untold damage read some of the forums about what you can and cant do you only get one chance to heal dont mess it up.

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

I agree, if you have to ask then it's too early. I went back to work on day 5 this time, but I had a dVH and easy recovery. When I had a laparotomy 10 years ago (9 inch incision) day 5 would have been too early for me.

Listen to your body and do what it says.

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

Day 5 I drove 1 mile to my DD house. It was really painful. I took my pillow and put it between my seat belt and stomach. It is a weird sensation. My DH asked me to go to Costco for a few items wk 2. He thought the walking would be good for me. I told him I was not allowed to go shopping or push shopping carts around until after week 2 at least. If you feel up to the ride and walk, then you can try it. Just be prepared to cut the visit short if you have to. ALSO do not pick up the broom!!! Have you read the Do's and Don't s on the Week One-Two Checkpoints on the site. Check it out. It's a good list of what you should be doing. Heating pad worked great on my belly and my back. I sometimes alternated it with ice pack also. Good luck

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

Well, I decided against the trip to the store... I'm a little afraid to get out to the store and feel tired.. or worse have someone bump into me.. just too many variables. Plus, my DH was TOTALLY against it... he would not even discuss it with me.. so - he went, I stayed home.. just sometimes you feel pretty good... so I think - think you can do stuff...
thanks ladies for the perspective!!!

If it was an emergency but not just for an outting please don't do it. Your body is still healing

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

My doctor said that my driving restrictions were not just for me being on narcotics, but also because of the "bumping" around or risk of being in an accident. I would stay home and take it easy....
Also, as far as the sweeping, it may drive you nuts as it did me. Sort of like little tumbleweeds of hair that pile in the corners! Perhaps hubby can do a bit of sweeping.
NOW...my favorite part...THE HEAT! I have fibromyalgia and use heat quite often to help with the pain. I have one of the "Bed buddy" things that you heat in the microwave. I found it very helpful on my stomach to relieve gas pains, muscles aches and any other aches and pains that I may have had.
Good luck with your healing...

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

Day 6 last week I couldn't stand being locked up in the house any more. I made my boyfriend take me out. We ended up looking at furniture...for 4 hours. Stopped at Ben and Jerry's on the way home.

Went back the next day and bought a new bedroom set and dining room table.

I was a little tired and stiff. Used my binder while walking around but took it off when I got home.

Start slow. I did make a trip to the grocery store about day 4 for some quick things. Of course, I had the Da Vinci, which is less of a strain that other methods I think.

Good luck!

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

thanks!!! Today is day 7 for me.. had my checkup - then went to the grocery store so all in all it was a 5 hour trip... I got home and was exhausted... not too mention sore, grouchy, emotional... so I think from now on we are gonna make trips when I really have too and then keep them to a minimum.
New bedroom furniture is awesome!!!

Re: Day 5 - too early for a ride to the store with hubby?

I had surgery on a Tuesday. Came home on Thursday. Went to Target on Friday. Husband drove but Dr had me on no driving restrictions straight out of the gate. We didn't shop for hours and I did lay down when I got home but I was fine. But I was out shopping again on Saturday. I found that walking in stores was great because it was cold and rainy outdoors and the Dr said walk, walk, walk.
But no to Sweeping the floors. Everyone I heard from said sweeping or vacuuming or pushing anything was a big no-no.
