2 weeks.. THEN the hormones start?

I was great the first two weeks. Yesterday and today I am a blubbering mess. Seems kinda backwards... are my ovaries just now figuring out they have something to say?

*sigh

oh and I still have post op discharge with some pink. I am to call back monday if it doesn't go away over the weekend of me resting.

Re: 2 weeks.. THEN the hormones start?

Aphreal.
I can’t speak for all the Princesses, but my experience was similar and I don’t think it’s out of the norm. For the first week or so, I felt great. I think it was the adrenaline rush of it being over (LAVH). At about 10 days in things started to fall apart for me emotionally. I was depressed and mopey and cried for absolutely no reason and was completely exhausted. I was also having hot/cold flashes and couldn’t sleep for anything in the world. I talked to my dr at my 5 week post-op and he said that, unfortunately, it was a pretty common thing for women even if they kept their ovaries – as I had. He said that sometimes ovaries need time to restart. They have been pushed and prodded and moved around even in the gentlest of hysterectomies – and they are not happy about it. He suggested that I give it some time, gave me something to help me sleep, emphasized rest when possible, but if things didn’t improve in a month to give him a call and we’d go from there. At about week 8 things got better and improved every week from there. Now at week 13 I’m feeling like my old self – better actually. I know at this point it may not be a lot of comfort to say – hang in there – but chances are it will get better. You’re still early in your recovery and you have been through a big change and you need time to adjust. But at the same time if you don’t feel like you can cope, give your dr a call. Remember, YOU are paying THEM and, at least in my experience, they are more than willing to answer your questions and help you feel your best.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Re: 2 weeks.. THEN the hormones start?

Thanks Bean. That does make me feel better. I talked to the nurse yesterday and she said kinda the same thing. It's a trial and error type of situation and we just never know how our ovaries will respond and that (GASP) some people still need HRT! I sure hope not because that is why i kept the ovaries! I was told we still will have PMS sypmptoms and the like because we do still ovulate.

I feel better today emotionally but I am in a lot of pain. blah
