Hmmmm??? Can Anyone Help???

I don't know if anyone can help me with this, or offer some advice.. but here goes!

I do not work, I stay at home with my children till they are all in school full-time (youngest one is 4.. not long to go). Anyways, my question is this: Where can I find out info on applying for Short Term Disability Benefits? I live in Kansas.. Geary County, City is Ft. Riley. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. I have done a search, but have come up empty handed.

I do not know if I would be eligible, but thinking back to when I was pregnant with #1 in 1991, my GYN handed me state disability papers to fill out (I was not working at the time). I was starting my 9th month. I was approved and got benefits for 6 weeks.

I'm not sure how short-term disability works in other States, but here in RI, we pay into it each week as a payroll deduction. You can only get it if you are employed. You might want to call your doctor's office. They probably have all the papers you would need to file a claim, but I'm not sure you can get it if you aren't employed.

Back in 1991 had you been employed at anytime before or during your pregnancy? If you were, that's probably why you were allowed to receive benefits for 6 weeks.

In California Short Term Disability is handled through the same office as the Unemployment office, EDD-Employment Development Department. Check your State listings in the phone book.
Here they determine your eligibility and benefit amount based upon your earnings of the past 18 months, whether or not you were employed at the time of the actual disability.

Nope.. wasn't empolyed before or during pregnancy.. That was California tho. Hmmm.. you got me wondering now.. I think I'm just nuts for even thinking about this sort of thing
